Yes on Democracy for the People: Initiative
What would the initiative do?
This initiative would require outside groups attempting to influence city elections to disclose their donors and ban corporations from directly contributing to candidates. Both of these measures are already in place for state-wide elections.
This initiative would create a small donor matching program, funded by $2 million of the city’s budget, for candidates who refuse special interest contributions in order to enable citizens without connections to large financial resources to run for office.
This initiative would decrease the maximum contribution and individual could give to a candidate to $1,000 for a mayoral candidate, $400 for a district council candidate, and $700 for all other positions.
