No on Florida Amendment 1: Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy Choice

Florida
Amendment 1 is an attempt by Florida's monopoly investor-owned power companies and Koch brothers-backed front groups to deceive voters into unknowingly passing anti-solar power policy. If passed, it would constitutionalize a false assumption that solar users are a financial burden to non-solar users, limit the expansion of solar, implement restrictions and unfair fees that would make solar more expensive, and hurt consumers by denying a cost effective way to lower power bills. Florida is also known as the Sunshine State--solar energy is one of the state's greatest assets, with the 3rd greatest potential of all states to generate rooftop solar power. However, because of poor policy backed by the utilities, Florida ranks 14th in the nation in installed solar capacity. With climate change impacting daily life for many Floridians and yet an abundant untapped supply of sunshine, we should be encouraging, not discouraging the use of solar power for the health of our communities and for the environment.
