Yes on Question 1: Safe Patient Limits

Massachusetts

Currently, in Massachusetts, there is no limit to the number of patients that can be assigned to a nurse unless they are working in the Intensive Care Unit. This initiative would establish limits on the number of patients that could be assigned to a nurse. These limits would depend on the medical unit and the type of patients the nurse works with. These patient limits to be met without reducing staff levels, such as service staff, maintenance staff, or clerical staff. These limits would better enable nurses to provide an adequate amount of time and attention to each patient to ensure quality medical care.
