Alan Pugh

Running for Elyria City Council At-Large
Election: Nov. 7, 2017

I am a lifelong Ohioan, 11 year Elyrian, and electrical engineering graduate from LCCC. I am the service and support lead for GlossGenius, a smart personal assistant startup, and an experienced leader and project manager. As a leader, I've broken the status quo using technology, bottom-up conversations, and smart investments to move my teams forward, and I want to do the same for my city.

Locally, I'm a vendor at the Elyria Farmer's Market, and I oversaw the launch of the Lorain County for Bernie Sanders field office.

I'm also an activist. Over the years, I've rallied alongside those who seek to raise the minimum wage, reform the criminal justice system, stop the drug war, and demand justice for victims of police brutality. I've camped out and carried petitions, but in 2016, the Bernie Sanders campaign inspired me to do more.

I want to see a modern, progressive Elyria and a transparent, accountable city government focused on the needs of our working class.

  • We must treat the opioid crisis as a public health concern instead of a law enforcement matter.
  • We must provide public transportation options throughout the city.
  • We must provide homes for our homeless population, alongside training and tools to improve their living space.
  • We must create a more transparent and accessible local government, including livestreaming council meetings, a functional municipal website, and participation in Open Data initiatives.
