Atif has been a Piscataway homeowner for 14 years. He has two children in Piscataway’s schools, and one recent graduate. He has been a Piscataway Board of Education Member Since 2013, and has served on the Curriculum, Finance, Community Relations, and Policy and Legislative Committees. He has been a member of the Society Hill Board for 11 years, with service as Vice President, Treasurer, and Trustee. He has 22 years of experience in public health management and administration, and was appointed to the Piscataway Health Advisory Commission in 2008. He has been a member of the Piscataway Township Civil Rights Advisory Commission, and is a community interfaith activist locally and nationally. He was a member of AFSCME Local 2299 for 10 years, and has been a member of IUOE Local 68 from 2010–present.

He is Health Officer/Health Director of the Plainfield Health Department, where he assures the delivery of comprehensive public health services to diverse community of the City of Plainfield. He has worked in the field of public health over the past 15 years at various public health departments of State of New Jersey. As Chief Executive Officer of Health Department he plans,  manages and oversees  various public health programs for the City including communicable disease surveillance & investigation, public health nursing, health education, environmental health, rabies control, maternal child health, WIC, vital statistics, childhood lead prevention , health promotion, disease prevention, public health emergency preparedness, and public health planning and administration.

He worked as the Assistant Director in Global Disease Management & Clinical Outcomes, NJ for Disease management by introducing therapeutic cost saving alternative drugs to help keep the drug benefit affordable and sustainable. He was involved in research, development, design, marketing and management of prescription drug programs (1996-2002). He also worked for five years in programs management in animal disease control & prevention, animal vaccination and improvement of milk & meat production in Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab, Pakistan 1991-1995.
