Bernard Douthit is a Denver resident, father, and Colorado native. In 2016 he volunteered and was a speaker for Colorado's single-payer initiative - Amendment 69. His interest in bringing universal health care to Colorado is very personal. As a small business owner he's seen his health care premiums more than double and deductibles triple in recent years, and at times reach a point when they were unaffordable and he had to go without coverage. As State Treasurer, Bernard plans to use his in-depth experience and education in finance and economics including a graduate degree from MIT to aid state leaders in making the case for universal health care, a public bank and other important investments. He has worked as an economist and currently owns and manages a small business located in Denver.
