Brad Avakian

Running for Secretary of State
Avakian is a former civil rights attorney. He helped create the local YMCA’s Juvenile Restitution Program, co-founded the Oregon League of Conservation Voters’ Washington County Chapter and was appointed to lead the State Board of Psychologist Examiners. He served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2002 to 2006, and in the Oregon State Senate from 2006 to 2008. His campaign platform includes protecting state lands from privatization, green jobs, equal pay for equal work, overturning Citizens United, improving access to voting (same day registration, pre-paid postage on mail-in ballots, multiple languages), publicly financed elections, public disclosure of donors behind political adverts, holding corporations accountable through audits, and he is pro-choice and pro-LGBTQ rights. Avakian has been endorsed by the Mother PAC, NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon, the Oregon Education Association, numerous trade unions, the Oregon League of Conservation Voters and Basic Rights Oregon's political action committee.
