Christine Pellegrino

Running for State Assembly, District 9
New York
Election: Nov. 6, 2018

Christine Pellegrino was elected to the Assembly in a special election in 2017. Before coming to the Assembly, Christine was an elementary school reading teacher in the Baldwin Union Free School District for 18 years. As an active member of the Baldwin Teachers’ Association, Christine was an outspoken critic of Common Core. She helped lead the Long Island Opt Out movement, fighting for local control of our schools and against standardized testing, after experiencing firsthand how developmentally inappropriate education policies hurt our schools and failed our kids. Christine organized her community’s passion and desire for real, comprehensive education reform as a rallying point to advocate for issues that mattered to her fellow community residents at the local, state and national levels. She believes in the power of local grassroots activism and will continue to bring her neighbors together to get Long Island families the results they deserve.
