My advocacy work in education led me to organize my union after a large turn over in tenured staff. The challenges of grassroots organizing were/are many, but I remain determined to lead and empower my members. My work with the union has expanded my understanding, great respect and commitment to the labor movement. Currently, a consultant with NJEA; Chair of the Public Charter Schools Members Work Group, where our focus is on organizing charter schools; Leadership Committee; Minority Leadership Cadre Trainer and I sit on the National Education Association Women’s Issues Committee. I am a steering committee member of Essex Rising, a progressive grassroots organization committed to advancing democratic values and civic engagement. In addition to the steering committee, I work with the Fair & Welcoming Committee and the Civil Liberties/Unity Committee for ER. We challenge local leaders in adopting fair & welcoming policies.
