At a very young age, my younger brother, Jonathan, taught me the importance of standing up for dignity and access for everyone. Jonathan was born with cognitive disabilities, and watching my parents advocate to ensure he had the best opportunities to thrive instilled in me the idea that no one deserves to be left behind. I’ve built my life around this idea. I began my career as the Director of Education for a disability services non-profit, where I met families across America who grappled with lack of access to proper supports and who felt ignored by the lawmakers who could assist them. I transitioned to academia so I could study our national problems on a systemic level, and now teach public policy and democracy at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in Syracuse. I'm running for New York's 24th District because Donald Trump and his enabler Rep. John Katko threaten my community with an agenda that is at odds with the values I have practiced my entire life.
