He worked in the restaurant industry through high school, where he learned the value of an honest, hard day’s work, and what it’s like to be a true working American. H witnessed the lives of ordinary people and was inspired by their sacrifices, yet also saddened by the struggles they faced.
He started college with a commitment to serve. During these years, he realized the power of community engagement and grassroots organizing. Along the way, he met and worked alongside inspiring activists and even was chosen to train with Al Gore and present the now famous “An Inconvenient Truth”.
Hector graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California and worked for a number of community organizations and voter registration drives. His proudest and most fulfilling moment of all came when he was hired on as a staff member for “Bernie Sanders 2016.” He put his entire soul into the revolution then, and have not stopped since. Although Bernie ultimately lost his presidential campaign, the fight for equality, across the board, remains. He believes that it is up to each and every one of us to be the change we wish to see. He is running for City Council because he wants to prove to the rest of our city, state and nation that real transformation is possible, even in the heart of North Las Vegas.
