I grew up in a household that relied on government assistance for food and heat. I worked hard in school and often worked two jobs to try to get ahead. I worked two full-time jobs while I attended Lane Community College, focusing on business management and accounting. I chose that focus because I had always wanted to run my own business, which I did successfully for 13 years. Despite my meager beginnings, or perhaps because of them, I’ve never been driven by money, beyond what I needed for survival. Rather I find the desire to truly help people as my motivating force. As County Commissioner, I see a great opportunity to help many people. I have the technical skills for budgeting, the people skills for administrating, the work ethic and comprehensive ability to get up to speed quickly in a new position, and the desire to serve the people in an honest, transparent, and accountable manner.
