I was born in Rhode Island, the daughter of two wonderful parents. Our family was a middle class family, my mother was a clerk and my father worked in auto body. Though neither of them went to college, they always encouraged me to go, and told me that I could be whatever I wanted to do. I ended up graduating with a B.S. in Information Science and an M.S. in Information Systems. But I have always had an interest in history and government, and followed politics closely. And for at least 15 years, I have been a fan of Senator Bernie Sanders. In early 2015, I learned that he was going to run for President, and put everything else on hold to help him win. I founded Rhode Island for Bernie Sanders, and I believe that with all the hard work we did from May 2015 to the RI Primary, we helped Bernie win here. It was he that motivated me to run for RI Senate in 2016. I won the seat and have been fighting for single-payer health care, a $15 minimum wage and protecting our environment.
