I was born and raised on Long Island where I am raising my two children, a one-year-old son, and three-year-old daughter. I am the daughter of a public school teacher and the granddaughter of immigrants - who came to this country as refugees with very little English. My grandfather helped build the first lunar module to land on the moon. My grandmother came through Ellis Island and built a small business selling yarn. I have spent my career empowering working families and women both domestically and abroad. I have forged partnerships between nonprofits, government and businesses to tackle issues including economic development, access to health care, paid family leave, and government transparency. I worked to help restore economically depressed communities around the world -- including helping farmers use technology to negotiate better prices. I have worked for the United Nations Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, EastWest Institute, Vital Voices, and New York University.
