My name is Matt Brown. I served as Rhode Island Secretary of State as a Democrat from 2003 until 2007. While in office, I worked to improve the state’s elections system and increase government transparency to ensure our government serves everyone, not just the well-financed and well-connected. I previously co-founded and led City Year Rhode Island, which has enlisted thousands of young adults to tutor and mentor children in Rhode Island schools and meet critical community needs. City Year has since grown to 28 cities across the country. In 2007, I co-founded Global Zero, an international organization that works to reduce the catastrophic risk of nuclear confrontation and seeks the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons worldwide. Global Zero has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. I live in Providence, Rhode Island with my wife and two children.
