Samantha was born and raised in Lubbock, TX, home of House District 84. Growing up, poverty was a constant and uncertainty was the norm. Even after graduating from high school and college with above average grades, she struggled herself to make ends meet for her own family. She did everything she thought society asked of her as a young Latina, but still her student loans weighed heavy on her bank account, she was unable to find affordable childcare for her children so she was a stay-at-home mom for the first three years of their lives and she took whatever jobs she could to support her family WHEN she could, including waitressing, seasonal retail, breastfeeding peer counseling and teaching a classroom of one-year-olds. Today, she is taking her experiences of surviving on food stamps, watching her mother work night and day to pay off mountain-high medical bills and giving a voice to the thousands of people in District 84 who live the same life of constant struggle.
