Sheila Ruth

Running for Baltimore County Council, District 1
Election: June 26, 2018

Sheila is a dedicated progressive activist, serving on the Board of Directors for several nonprofits including Get Money Out - Maryland. She founded the Baltimore County Progressive Democrats Club, an activist group that now enjoys the participation of hundreds of members, and has become a widely recognized force in Baltimore County politics.

Prior to running for this position, Sheila was an Our Revolution volunteer since our organization was founded, and served on the steering committee of the Our Revolution Baltimore City/County Chapter. She has proven experience coalition-building, helping to develop alliances among progressive groups in Baltimore County and statewide. In the spring of 2017, a large and diverse collection of Maryland progressive groups elected Sheila to represent progressive Democrats on the Maryland Democratic Party Executive Committee as one of the party’s Diversity Leadership Council Chairs.

Her platform is in full alignment with Our Revolution’s progressive values. She has pledged to fight for: Getting money out of Maryland politics through legislation (e.g., legislation for Small Donor Matched Public Financing of elections), raising the minimum wage (to at least $15), single payer healthcare, providing free tuition at community colleges, and moving Baltimore County to a 100% clean energy economy by 2035, to name a few examples. She has committed publicly to not accept any corporate donations to her campaign.
