Uriah Ward was born and raised in Greenville and he graduated from ECU in 2014 with a BS in Political Science. He works as a middle school teacher and is the Chair of the Social Studies Department at his school. In 2010, he was one of the original appointees to the Greenville Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission. He would later be chosen as the Chair-Elect of that commission. He created New Greenville, a progressive civic organization. New Greenville led the effort to pass an anti-HB2 resolution in the city council. He also led the successful attempt to get city council to pass a plastic bags resolution.
Uriah is a former President of the East Carolina University College Democrats and the Young Democrats of Pitt County. In 2016, he was a Bernie Sanders delegate to the DNC.
