Yasmine Taeb came to the United States as an undocumented immigrant, became a citizen, a lawyer, and a Democratic activist. She has more than 10 years of legislative and policy experience and is running to represent Virginia’s 35th Senate District.
Yasmine is an experienced human rights attorney and serves as Senior Policy Counsel at the Center for Victims of Torture, where she leads the organization’s advocacy and research on refugees and asylum seekers. She fights on the front lines every day against efforts from the White House and Congress to impose cruel, unnecessary rules against refugees and asylum seekers, including President Trump’s infamous “Muslim Ban” and his family separation policies at the border.
Yasmine believes the Democratic Party is at its strongest when it is defending diversity and welcoming new voices into the halls of power. She has worked with diverse constituencies across Virginia to get Democrats elected, and she is committed to progressive principles and causes. She has championed women’s economic and reproductive rights, immigrant rights, improving education, and a host of other issues Democrats fight for every day. She actively works to engage communities of color in the political process and has served as Co-Vice Chair of the Democratic Asian Americans of Virginia.
