Restaurant workers are at risk of being left out of legislation to raise wages! Tipped restaurant workers, overwhelmingly women and disproportionately women of color, have repeatedly been negotiated out of minimum wage increases in New York State since 1960, thanks to the National Restaurant Association
These women have repeatedly been told to wait for a full minimum wage that has never materialized - with dire consequences for the future of the New York State restaurant industry and it’s workers. Additionally, tipped workers suffer from some of the highest levels of poverty and sexual haressment of any workforce in the state.
Restaurant workers in New York currently earn 66% of the minimum wages before tips, and several state lawmakers want to change that. Tips should be on top.
Call your New York State Representative's now and call on them to not leave tipped restaurant workers out of a minimum wage increase!
