WASHINGTON - Our Revolution on Monday announced its endorsement for Gil Cedillo, up for re-election as city councilmember in Los Angeles District One.
“Gil Cedillo has spent his career fighting for social, economic, and racial justice in his own backyard,” said Shannon Jackson, Executive Director of Our Revolution. “As council member Cedillo has worked to protect the rights of immigrants, the uninsured, low-income, undocumented, homeless, and working class families. We are honored to stand by Gil Cedillo as he continues to provide a voice for underserved communities who too often don’t have a seat at the table.”
Cedillo spent 14 years in the state legislature and has fought on the front lines for: state oversight and fair share zoning for transitional and emergency homeless shelters (SB 2), workers’ right to organize (AB 1889), Downtown Rebound (AB 2870), driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, and the groundbreaking California Dream Act (AB 130 and 131).
“Now, more than ever, we need strong progressive champions,” added Jackson. “Cedillo will fight at the grassroots level to respond to the needs of working families and adapt to protect the people of Los Angeles from the radical and inhumane agenda being proposed by this administration.”
