WASHINGTON -- Our Revolution on Thursday announced its endorsement of Shelly Hutchinson for Georgia House of Representatives, District 107. She is also endorsed by the Our Revolution local group, Grassroots Gwinnett. Hutchinson is the first Democrat to run for the seat since 2012. If elected, she will be the first African-American woman elected from that district.
“As a mental health therapist, Shelly has been a dedicated advocate for the health and well-being of her community,” said Our Revolution President, Nina Turner. “We are proud to endorse her campaign because she will be an advocate for policies that allow every resident of Georgia to thrive. In the state house, she will fight for fully funding education, and expanding access to Medicaid and mental health care.”
In 2002, Hutchinson founded The Social Empowerment Center, a mental health outreach and treatment center in Lawrenceville. She is the chairperson of the Local Interagency Planning Team for the Department of Behavioral Health and the Children In Need of Services Committee for the Department of Juvenile Justice. These committees provide think tanks for local leaders to access unconventional services for children in need of behavioral health services.
Our Revolution supports progressive champions at every level of government. By supporting candidates up and down the ballot, we are aiming to transform American politics to make our political and economic systems responsive to the needs of working families.
