WASHINGTON – Starting this week, Our Revolution members will be arriving at Democratic U.S. House members’ offices in ambulances to underscore the urgency of passing Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s (D-WA) Medicare for All Act of 2019.
Our Revolution’s “Emergency Ambulance Tour” will kickoff in Maryland with candidates who are running on a platform of Medicare for All at the state and federal levels. The first stop will be in the district of Congressman Steny Hoyer - the House Majority Leader - who has yet to co-sponsor The Medicare for all Act of 2019.
“Each day House Democrats fail to lead, lives are lost. It is morally unacceptable for the Democratic House majority to stand by and do nothing as Americans needlessly die and families fall into despair," said Joseph Geevarghese, National Director of Our Revolution.
Every day, 123 Americans die because they lack health insurance, and these in-district actions are designed to encourage every House Democrat support access to guaranteed quality healthcare for every American. To date, despite controlling the majority of US House seats, only 110 Democratic members - less than 50% - support Medicare for All. That’s why the “Medicare for All Emergency” tour will travel to Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas and other states, culminating with a stop at the first Democratic Primary debate in Miami, Florida on June 26 and 27.
Jayapal’s Medicare for All Act is the most comprehensive health care policy in Congress. The bill will control ballooning health care costs and ensure all people, including people with prior existing conditions, receive the care they need to lead healthy and productive lives.
“The truth is Medicare for All is a progressive litmus test - either you’re on the side of the sick and the suffering or you’re with corporate healthcare CEOs. Our tour is going to call the question on every wavering Democrat - which side are you on? Not only that, our campaign is going to ramp up the pressure on these House Democrats’ until they have the courage to put their people over profits,” added Geevarghese.
