WASHINGTON-- Our Revolution board member and former Nevada Assembly member Lucy Flores released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s decision to roll back the federal requirement for employers to include birth control coverage in their health insurance plans.
“The Trump Administration’s decision to roll back the Affordable Care Act requirement that employer insurance plans cover birth control is a brazen tactic to take away the rights of 62 million women to make their own decision about their reproductive health.
“By letting employers, instead of women and their doctors, decide access to birth control this administration has infringed on the basic health care rights that allow women to decide whether and when to have children, and how to treat their medical conditions.
“Make no mistake about it—this hypocritical decision has nothing to do with healthcare or business and everything to do with exercising power over women. We don't see male officials restricting male reproductive healthcare, but every single year we see them trying to regulate women's reproductive health.
“We know that nearly 9 in 10 women will use birth control in their lifetimes. Whether the decision to use birth control is because of making important personal and economic life decisions or because it's a healthcare decision, the decision belongs to women and women alone. We will not stand by silently as they chip away at the progress we’ve made to expand equal access to reproductive health care.”
