Our Revolution Statement on the Verdict In the Shooting of Philando Castile

WASHINGTON--Our Revolution’s Board of Directors released the following statement in response to the acquittal of the police officer who fatally shot Philando Castile:

“We are disappointed with the verdict in the trial of the officer who shot and killed Philando Castille. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they relive the pain of his murder following verdict that does not bring justice.

“Our criminal justice system is broken. We must change the corrupt system that prioritizes imprisoning black and brown people, while refusing to deliver justice for their deaths.

“We acknowledge that there are five primary forms of systemic violence--physical, political, economic, legal and environmental--that harm black and brown people. Our Revolution will continue to fight for racial and economic justice and an end the extremism that fails to recognize the humanity of black and brown people.”
