Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Yet millions of Americans don’t have access to quality, affordable medical treatment, even as our nation spends twice as much per capita on healthcare than any other country. Medicare for All is the solution. Despite what Big Insurance will tell you, we can afford it. In fact, Medicare for All would save us money by cutting excessive administrative and pharmaceutical costs. That’s why we are organizing to make sure every single Democrat in Congress supports Medicare for All legislation introduced by Bernie in the Senate and U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) in the House.

In 2016, Trump ran as a worker champion for the forgotten men and women of America – he promised to be a “blue-collar billionaire” who would deliver more jobs and better wages and end the offshoring of jobs. This economic populism resonated in the Rust Belt littered with shuttered factories – the consequence of free trade deals championed by Dems and Republicans alike.   For Trump this could be a winning strategy – right now, polls show Trump beats Biden on jobs and the economy. But the truth is Trump lied his ass off – and it’s his Achilles heel.  That’s why Our Revolution’s Midwestern Pivot County Campaign is focused on winning back working-class voters in the industrial heartland. The truth is that Democrats ignored the Midwest in 2016 – we can’t afford to make that mistake again.

Our climate is in crisis. We have less than 11 years to dramatically reduce our carbon emissions before damage to our climate becomes irreversible. Starting today, we must do everything we can to begin to transition our nation to 100% clean energy. That’s why we’re organizing to win a Green New Deal. We’re fighting to keep fossil fuels in the ground by stopping politicians from issuing new permits for pipelines. We’re calling for the creation of a clean energy economy powered by solar, wind and other renewable sources.

When Trump realized he was going to lose the election because his negligent mismanagement of the COVID-19 response led to over 175,000 deaths and rising, he appointed Louis DeJoy, a Republican megadonor with conflicts of interest and a record of supporting privatization, as Postmaster General.630,000 postal workers have been delivering stimulus checks and tax refunds, masks, gloves, prescription medications, and other supplies to 160 million urban, suburban, rural and remote households. So many Americans rely on the postal service for necessities, and in this pandemic, we are relying on mail to exercise our fundamentally American right to vote safely. We’re standing up and demanding that politicians respect the 91% of Americans who have a positive view of the USPS.

The U.S. has been at war for the past 18 years with no clear objective or endpoint. More than 250,000 civilians have been killed, 7,000 US troops have died, and American taxpayers have paid more than $2.8 trillion dollars to the military-industrial complex. Despite the staggering human and economic costs, politicians – both Republicans and Democrats alike – continue spending on warfare instead of healthcare, childcare, and other priorities. That’s why we are organizing to dismantle the military-industrial complex and end our endless wars – once and for all.

The United States incarcerates more people than any other country on Earth at a cost of $80 billion a year, which translates to big profits for the prison industrial complex. Many of those who end up behind bars have not been convicted of a crime – they are only in jail because they can’t afford to post bail. And because of the historical legacy of racism in this country, the system disproportionately hurts African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans. We are fighting to stop this system of injustice and end the practice of corporations profiting off the suffering of incarcerated people and their families.

The gap between rich and poor is now the widest it’s been in 50 years. As wages continue to stagnate, working people across America are suffering. Unions are the best antidote we have to income inequality. When workers join unions and use their collective strength to negotiate better wages – all workers benefit. Yet union membership today is at its lowest level in history, with a more than 7% decline since Trump took office. That’s why we’re organizing to expand the right of workers to form unions, pass a $15 federal minimum wage, and end so-called “right-to-work” legislation. We’re also fighting to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are invested in companies that create good union jobs in the USA – not firms that steal wages and ship jobs overseas.

Free public college used to be a gateway to the American Dream. Today, these formerly free institutions are charging exorbitant tuition, which is pushing college out of reach for all but America’s wealthiest. Right now, more than 46 million Americans are burdened with student debt totaling more than $1.6 trillion. That’s why we’re standing with Bernie and U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to call for the cancellation of all student debt. The average borrower would save approximately $3,000 a year in student loan payments. This would be a huge economic boost, helping to grow our economy by up to $108 billion per year and create more than 1 million jobs.

Under President Trump, America’s immigration system has become cruel and inhumane. His administration has deported 800,000 people. And, at any given time, there are more than 50,000 people detained at ICE facilities—the highest number in our history. We are organizing to win comprehensive immigration justice – which includes a moratorium on deportations, humane policies for asylum seekers, the closing of detention centers, and reunification for families. By joining together, we can reject hate and divisiveness and ensure that our nation is a beacon of liberty for all.
