David Morales for Mayor of Providence
Our Revolution is proud to endorse David Morales for Mayor of Providence, Rhode Island.
David isn’t running to manage the status quo. He’s running to take on Providence’s affordability crisis and build a city where working people can actually afford to stay, raise a family, and thrive.
And for David, that fight is personal.
Raised by a single immigrant mother who worked multiple minimum-wage jobs, David grew up facing housing insecurity. His family eventually found stability through public housing and his mother landing a union job—experiences that shaped his belief in what strong public institutions and economic security can mean for a family.
David spent his teenage years picking fruits and vegetables. At 20, he earned his Master’s in Public Affairs from Brown University, becoming the youngest graduate in the program’s history. At 22, Providence voters sent him to the Rhode Island State House, making him the youngest Latino state legislator in America.
And he’s spent his time in office delivering for working people.
As a State Representative, David has passed laws to lower prescription drug costs, raise the minimum wage, strengthen protections for immigrants, and increase state aid for Providence Public Schools. Outside the State House, he has stood with striking workers at Butler Hospital, fought proposed utility rate increases, and advocated to protect public transit from devastating budget cuts.
Now, David wants to bring that same fighting spirit to City Hall.
A Mayor for Providence’s Renters and Working Families
David is putting Providence’s affordability crisis at the center of his campaign.
He supports capping annual rent hikes at 4%, requiring new housing developments to include affordable units, stabilizing property taxes for homes valued under $2 million, and imposing transaction fees on large real estate companies buying up homes and driving displacement. He also wants stronger enforcement against absentee landlords who allow unsafe conditions to persist.
That’s a bold agenda—and exactly the kind of action this moment demands.
David understands that a city shouldn’t become more prosperous by pushing out the very people who made it a community in the first place.
Investing in the Providence People Love
David’s vision goes beyond affordability.
He wants a city budget that strengthens Providence Public Schools, including investments in staffing, mental health support, and family engagement. He wants libraries open longer, better public transportation, investments in stormwater infrastructure and green projects, and stronger action against industrial polluters.
And there’s something refreshingly local about his vision for Providence.
David wants more free neighborhood concerts and film screenings, artists working in libraries and public housing, and regular community meetings where residents can hear directly from City Hall and make their voices heard.
This is a campaign about making Providence more affordable—but also making it more joyful, connected, and rooted in community.
David already lives those values. When he isn’t legislating or organizing, you might find him coaching his T-ball team, the “Morales Mets,” or showing up at a local library dressed as Spider-Man to read to kids.
And yes—he has even stepped into the ring as a professional wrestler.
That may not be a traditional résumé for mayor. But David Morales isn’t offering traditional politics.
He’s offering the perspective of a lifelong renter who knows housing insecurity firsthand. A son of a working mother who understands what a union job can mean to a family. A progressive legislator with a record of delivering. And a community leader who believes City Hall should work for every neighborhood—not just the powerful and well-connected.
That’s the kind of local leadership Our Revolution is working to build across the country: progressives who come out of their communities, take on entrenched power, deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives, and build lasting grassroots power from the ground up.
Our Revolution is proud to endorse David Morales for Mayor of Providence.
Let’s elect a working-class progressive who will fight to make Providence a city everyone can afford to call home.
When we organize, we win.
