Zo Qadri for Austin City Council District 9
Our Revolution is proud to endorse Zohaib “Zo” Qadri for re-election to Austin City Council District 9.
Zo is showing what progressive leadership at the local level can accomplish: take on the affordability crisis, stand with workers and renters, invest in public health, protect democracy, and make government deliver for the people who call Austin home.
As Austin’s first South Asian City Councilmember, Zo has spent his first term fighting to make one of America’s fastest-changing cities more affordable, accessible, and just. And he has a record of results.
On housing, Zo has helped deliver some of Austin’s most significant affordability reforms. He led zoning and housing changes aimed at increasing supply and making it possible for working people and families to stay in the city. His campaign points to a 10% decline in rents citywide since he took office, while District 9 leads the city in new housing units coming online. He has also passed comprehensive tenant protections and pushed for more affordable and accessible student housing.
Zo stands with working people. On the Council, he passed a resolution supporting workers’ rights and urging Google to bargain with YouTube Music contractors. He has stood alongside workers organizing with AFSCME, EMS, Seton Nurses, Restaurant Workers United, UPS, UNITE HERE, Starbucks, and others fighting for collective agreements and better working conditions.
He is also fighting for an Austin where public safety means investing in people and communities. Zo secured funding for a Mental Health Diversion Pilot, paramedics, and Community Health Navigators, while expanding resources to address homelessness and permanent supportive housing. He was also the lone vote against a five-year, $218 million Austin police contract, warning that the agreement could take resources away from city-funded social services.
And Zo understands that progressive leadership means defending democracy itself. He expanded access to voter registration at city facilities, fought for implementation of the Austin Police Oversight Act, championed open government, and has pushed back against government overreach.
This is why local elections matter.
When we elect progressives to city councils, we can lower housing costs, protect renters, stand with workers organizing for a better deal, invest in public health, expand democracy, and improve people’s lives right now.
Zo Qadri has spent his first term putting those values into action. Now he’s running to keep building an Austin where working people can afford to stay, families can thrive, and everyone has a voice in the future of their city.
Our Revolution is proud to endorse Zo Qadri for Austin City Council District 9.
Let’s keep building progressive power from the ground up.
When we organize, we win.
