Mathewos Samson for Georgia State House District 58
Our Revolution is proud to endorse Mathewos Samson for Georgia State House District 58 — a lifelong Atlantan, community organizer, and democratic socialist running to put working people ahead of billionaires and corporate interests.
Mathewos grew up in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward in a family of immigrants. His parents came to Atlanta in the 1980s after being displaced by conflict in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. As his neighborhood changed, he watched longtime residents get priced out of the communities they had called home for decades.
That experience helped push Mathewos into organizing. He marched against the killing of George Floyd, organized his coworkers for better conditions and fair pay, worked on local progressive campaigns, and advocated at Atlanta City Hall for public transit expansion, affordable housing, and fairer taxes on the wealthy.
Now he’s taking that fight to the Georgia State Capitol.
At the heart of Mathewos’ campaign is a straightforward idea: Georgia should work for working people, not corporations and billionaires. His campaign refuses corporate PAC money and is powered by grassroots supporters.
Mathewos is putting forward a bold working-class agenda. He supports legalizing rent control, banning rental price-fixing, ending corporate ownership of single-family homes, establishing a Tenants Bill of Rights, and investing in affordable social housing.
He’s also fighting for universal healthcare, including passage of the Georgia Medicare for All Act and the creation of a single-payer system without copays, deductibles, fees, or premiums. He also supports protecting abortion, birth control, and gender-affirming care as essential healthcare.
Mathewos understands that affordability goes far beyond housing and healthcare. He supports raising Georgia’s minimum wage to at least $20 an hour, repealing anti-union “right-to-work” laws, guaranteeing paid family leave, providing universal no-cost childcare and Pre-K, creating good-paying infrastructure jobs, and making the wealthiest Georgians pay their fair share in taxes.
It’s time to send another people-powered progressive to the State Capitol — and build a Georgia that works for all of us.
When we organize, we win.
