Michael Farrington for RTD Board District K
Our Revolution is proud to endorse Michael Farrington for the Regional Transportation District Board of Directors in District K, representing Commerce City, Brighton, and Thornton.
Michael isn’t running because public transit is an abstract policy issue to him. He’s an RTD rider who grew up in Commerce City and knows firsthand what happens when the bus doesn’t show up, connections are missed, or riders don’t feel safe. Now, he’s running to transform RTD into a system people can actually depend on.
A fourth-generation Coloradan, Michael graduated from the University of Colorado Law School, where he focused on land use, housing, local government, and the policies shaping growing communities. Today, he works with Colorado cities on land-use and legal issues and co-founded YIMBY North Metro, advocating for more housing, walkable neighborhoods, and responsible development near transit.
That experience has given Michael a clear vision for RTD: safe, frequent, reliable transit that connects people to jobs, schools, healthcare, services, and their communities.
He wants to focus RTD spending on what riders actually need: cut waste, demand greater accountability, improve stations and service, and make sure public dollars deliver real results. He also sees public transit as part of the solution to Colorado’s housing affordability crisis.
RTD owns parking lots and other underused land near transit. Michael wants the agency to work with local governments and affordable housing developers to turn that land into homes people can afford — creating more opportunities for families to live near jobs, schools, and services while building stronger, more walkable communities.
Michael also understands that improving RTD means respecting the people who keep it running. His campaign has earned support from Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1001 and the RTD Police Union, reflecting his commitment to workers as well as riders.
Michael Farrington represents a new generation of leadership that understands that great public transit is about more than buses and trains — it’s about affordability, opportunity, strong communities, and giving people the freedom to get where they need to go.
