James Solomon Heads to Runoff in Jersey City

By Endorsement, NJ

Progress is on the move in New Jersey! Our Revolution is proud to celebrate James Solomon’s advancement to the runoff in the Jersey City mayoral race — a major step toward electing a people-powered, climate-focused mayor who refuses to be bought or bossed.

✊ A Progressive Fighter for Jersey City

As a City Councilmember, James Solomon has built a reputation as a bold, principled progressive who stands up for working people and puts the public good before corporate developers. He has fought to strengthen tenant protections, end sweetheart deals for big developers, and bring greater transparency and accountability to city government.

James has also been recognized as a national leader on climate action — earning the endorsement of Climate Cabinet Action for his work to advance climate resilience, green infrastructure, and environmental justice across Jersey City. His vision for the city is clear: clean air, affordable housing, and a government that works for everyone — not the wealthy few.

🌹 Our Revolution’s Movement in Action

With this victory, James Solomon and Our Revolution members have proven that grassroots organizing can overcome big money and political insiders. This campaign has mobilized residents from every neighborhood — renters, workers, students, and small business owners — all united by a vision of a city where everyone can thrive.

As the campaign heads into the runoff, Our Revolution is ready to keep organizing — calling voters and meeting voters wherever they’re at to spread the message that real change comes from the bottom up, not the top down.

💪 When We Organize, We Win

James Solomon’s advancement to the runoff is a powerful testament to what happens when ordinary people stand up to entrenched power and demand a government that truly serves them.

Our Revolution is proud to stand with James and the movement for a more just, sustainable, and transparent Jersey City. Together, we’re building the kind of politics that puts people and planet before profit.

People Power Wins! Zohran Mamdani Elected Mayor of New York City

By Endorsement, Homepage Slot 1, NJ No Comments

Last night, the people of New York City made history.

In a stunning upset, Zohran Mamdani—a proud democratic socialist and champion for working people—won the race for Mayor of New York City, defeating Donald Trump’s chosen candidate, the Democratic establishment machine, and the billionaire donor class that tried to buy this election.

This victory is a testament to our grassroots power and a resounding rejection of corruption, oligarchy, and corporate power—and a clear mandate for a New York that works for the many, not the money.

✊ A Movement Victory

“Our message to the establishment is clear,” said Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution—the nation’s largest grassroots independent political organizing group founded by Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“Mamdani and his message about the crisis of affordability defeated Donald Trump, the Democratic establishment, and the donor classes of both parties.

They’ll leave out the hard truths: Chuck Schumer and the Democratic establishment are losing relevance, AIPAC and the pro-Israel lobby have become toxic forces in Democratic politics, voters are fed up with the gerontocracy and political corruption, and a united grassroots movement built on a working-class agenda can—and will—beat the billionaire-backed status quo.”

Geevarghese added,

“Mamdani’s victory is a bellwether. Progressives are poised to defeat the establishment of both parties in 2026 and beyond with a populist message that raises the standard of living for working-class people and takes on the corporate class.”

🌹 Organizing Power on Display

In the lead-up to Election Day, Our Revolution carried out one of the largest independent progressive organizing efforts in New York City’s history—reaching more than half a million voters through door knocking, subway canvassing, community events, phone calls, texts, and emails.

From the Bronx to Queens, Brooklyn to Staten Island, Our Revolution members stood shoulder to shoulder with local activists, tenants, and union organizers to make sure working-class voices were heard—and votes were counted.

This grassroots mobilization proved once again that when we organize, we win.

🗽 A New Day for New York

Mamdani’s victory isn’t just a win for one campaign—it’s a triumph for our growing movement to confront corporate greed, take on oligarchy, push back against the far right, and win policy change for affordable housing, healthcare, childcare, and more!

The fight for economic justice and true democracy is far from over—but in this moment we celebrate a powerful step forward.

Our Revolution congratulates Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, his campaign team, and the thousands of volunteers who made this victory possible. Together, we’re showing the nation what people power looks like.

Join Our Revolution to build on this momentum and organize the next wave of victories for working people across the country.

Turn Jersey City Blue — Our Progressive Slate

Turn Jersey City Blue — Our Progressive Slate

The stakes in Jersey City have never been higher — and Our Revolution is stepping up. We’re proud to back a bold, people-powered slate for the November 2025 municipal elections that can shift power away from entrenched interests and back to working people.

Meet Our Jersey City Slate

  • James Solomon – Mayoral Candidate
Councilmember Solomon is running as a progressive, climate-centered champion who refuses to be “bought or bossed.” He’s already earned the endorsement of Climate Cabinet Action for his leadership on climate resilience and city-wide environmental policies. He has pushed for stronger tenant protections, halted sweetheart developer deals, and advocated for more transparency in local government.
  • At-Large Candidates: Mamta Singh, Michael Griffin, Roland Lavarro
(We’ll insert their bios and backgrounds as soon as possible—if you can send me them, I’ll weave them in.)
  • Ward Council Candidates:
    • Denise Ridley (Ward A): A lifelong Jersey City resident and public servant, Ridley has represented Ward A since 2018 and is now running for reelection on Solomon’s slate. She’s earned the trust of transportation workers union ATU Local 823 and District 1199J healthcare workers for her record supporting labor, transit, and sustainable development.
    • Lorena Loayza (Ward B)
    • Dawn Giabalvo (Ward C)
    • Veronica Akaezuwa (Ward D)
    • Eleana Little (Ward E)

These candidates are united by a bold progressive vision: housing justice, community control, transparency, and a refusal to let corporate money drown out the needs of everyday people.

Why This Slate Matters

Jersey City is a microcosm of the broader struggle for democracy. The same forces that try to shape state and national politics—developers, corporate interests, opaque deals—are at work at the municipal level. That’s why winning local elections matters more than ever.

By backing Solomon and his entire progressive slate, we’re not just choosing better policies. We’re building power from the ground up. This is exactly what Our Revolution is all about.

When our neighbors win, we all win. Let’s show what grassroots progressive power can do in Jersey City.

Help us ramp up our grassroots GOTV machine to elect progressives up and down the ballot this November and hit the ground running for 2026 — every dollar helps!
