Aber Kawas for NY State Senate (SD-12)
Our Revolution is proud to endorse Aber Kawas for New York State Senate District 12 — a community organizer and democratic socialist who has spent more than 15 years fighting alongside working-class New Yorkers.
The daughter of Palestinian refugees and raised in a working-class New York City family, Aber’s politics are deeply rooted in her own experience.
When she was young, her father was detained by ICE and deported. Her family struggled to make ends meet while he was detained — an experience Aber says shaped her commitment to building power for poor and working people.
And she has spent years putting that commitment into action.
Aber has organized in the Fight for $15, fought police surveillance and harassment, worked for immigration reform, and helped develop and launch the Not On Our Dime campaign. Now, she’s running to bring that organizing experience to Albany.
Fighting for Working Families in Queens
Aber is running on a bold platform centered on making New York affordable and ensuring working people can live with dignity.
She supports passing the New York Health Act to provide comprehensive healthcare to every New Yorker, creating tens of thousands of permanently affordable, union-built social housing units, strengthening tenant protections, and making MTA buses fast and free.
She also wants to tax the rich to fund public services, expand public renewable energy, create union jobs, protect immigrant communities from ICE, and invest in the infrastructure working families depend on.
And Aber is running the same way she has organized throughout her career: from the grassroots up. Her campaign says it is powered by working people, not corporations or billionaires.
Building Progressive Power in Albany
Aber is running to represent communities across Queens, including parts of Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Ridgewood, Maspeth, Long Island City, Elmhurst, Glendale, and Jackson Heights.
Her campaign represents exactly the kind of progressive pipeline Our Revolution is working to build across the country: grassroots organizers taking the fights happening in their communities directly into the halls of power.
This November, Queens has an opportunity to send a working-class organizer to Albany who will fight for affordable housing, healthcare for all, workers, immigrants, climate action, and a government that puts people before corporations and billionaires.
