Angela Gonzales-Torres for Congress (CA-34)
Angela Gonzales-Torres is housing advocate and democratic socialist running for Congress in California’s 34th District.
Born and raised in Highland Park, Angela is the daughter of a deportee and was raised by a single mother who relied on programs like SNAP and Medicaid. Those experiences are central to her agenda: welcome immigrants with a pathway to citizenship and free legal services, expand social programs to all and provide affordable housing.
Angela supports Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, tuition-free public college, student-debt cancellation, stronger protections for gig workers and expanded childcare and paid leave. She also proposes a Guaranteed Basic Income pilot for working families.
Angela brings a mix of grassroots organizing and public-service experience. She has served as President of the Highland Park Neighborhood Council, worked in the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, and served as a regional representative on Metro’s Public Safety Advisory Committee.
She has worked alongside communities confronting displacement, helped advance permanently affordable and intergenerational housing, and now works to help formerly incarcerated people transition from prison into higher education.
