Matt was born and raised in Lakeville, went to high school in Rosemount, and now lives with his family in New Market Township. He has represented his community as a Lakeville City Councilor, Mayor of Lakeville, and Minnesota State Senator. Today, he owns a law firm where he represents seniors and people with disabilities who have been harmed by negligence or abuse.
Now he’s ready to bring that fight to Washington.
Taking on the Oligarchs
Matt understands something fundamental about this moment: our affordability crisis and the corruption of our politics are connected.
Working families are struggling with the cost of groceries, childcare, healthcare, housing, and retirement while enormous wealth and political power accumulate at the very top.
Matt wants to change that.
He supports Medicare for All, affordable childcare, tax relief for working people, and higher taxes on the ultrawealthy. And he’s made fighting political corruption a centerpiece of his campaign.
Matt has rejected big PAC and AIPAC money and proposed an Anti-Corruption Bill of Rights that would overturn Citizens United, ban Super PACs, prohibit members of Congress and the administration from trading stocks, and impose stronger conflict-of-interest rules on presidents and their families.
He’s not just running against a broken system. He’s telling voters exactly how he wants to change it.
Standing Up to Big Tech
Matt is also willing to take on another source of growing corporate power: Big Tech and its massive data centers.
He is calling for a moratorium on data centers, warning that unchecked development threatens Minnesota’s aquifers and farmland while leaving taxpayers to pick up the tab.
That willingness to connect corporate power in Washington to its real-world consequences back home is exactly the kind of progressive leadership we need.
Matt isn’t afraid to ask who benefits, who pays, and whether ordinary people are getting a fair deal.
Fighting for the Underdog
There’s a deeply personal reason Matt talks so much about fighting.
He says he’s running for the healthcare his mom needs, the retirement his dad earned, and the future his daughter deserves. He’s running for families who work hard and still can’t afford groceries, childcare, healthcare, or assisted living — and for the underdogs who feel like the American Dream keeps moving further out of reach.
That perspective runs through his campaign.
Matt is fighting for Social Security and Medicare for All, affordable childcare, reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights, family farmers, and an economy where opportunity isn’t reserved for the wealthiest Americans.
He also knows how to represent a politically diverse district without abandoning his values. During his time in the Minnesota Senate, Matt co-authored more than 60 bipartisan bills while continuing to stand up for what he believed was right.
