Our Revolution is proud to endorse Chris Jones for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture — a research scientist, author, water quality expert, and fearless advocate ready to take on corporate agriculture and fight for clean water, sustainable farms, and thriving rural communities.
For more than 40 years, Chris has worked at the intersection of agriculture, science, and Iowa’s water. He managed the water quality testing laboratory at Des Moines Water Works, worked as an environmental scientist at the Iowa Soybean Association, and helped develop Iowa’s first real-time public water quality sensor network as a research engineer at the University of Iowa.
Now, he’s running to fundamentally change who Iowa’s Department of Agriculture works for.
Chris believes Iowans shouldn’t have to choose between a prosperous agricultural economy and clean drinking water. His vision challenges an agricultural system dominated by corn, soybeans, concentrated animal feeding operations, and ethanol — and lays out a path toward a more diverse, sustainable, and resilient rural economy.
At the center of his campaign is a commitment to clean water and corporate accountability. Chris supports enforceable pollution standards while helping farmers who want to transition toward more sustainable operations. He wants to restore local control over livestock CAFOs, regulate nutrient pollution, protect stream banks, strengthen environmental enforcement, and establish clean air and clean water as fundamental rights in Iowa’s Constitution.
But Chris’s vision goes well beyond conservation. He wants to rebuild rural Iowa from the ground up.
That means creating markets for alternative crops, strengthening local food systems, expanding parks and public spaces, helping communities establish orchards, bringing mobile grocery stores to rural communities and food deserts, and connecting Iowa-grown food directly to Iowa families. He also proposes providing free school breakfast and lunch to children who want it — using food grown and raised in Iowa.
Chris is also willing to confront powerful interests that have shaped Iowa agriculture for decades. His campaign calls for a strategic move away from corn-based ethanol, tougher accountability for agribusiness polluters, and an agricultural system that puts farmers, families, public health, and Iowa’s land and water ahead of corporate power.
This is the kind of bold leadership Iowa needs — grounded in science, willing to challenge the status quo, and driven by the belief that rural prosperity and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand.
