Our Revolution Condemns Trump’s Illegal Escalation Toward War With Iran
As Trump Escalates Unauthorized Military Action, Our Revolution Launches Petition Urging Congress to Block Strikes and Pass the Sanders-Khanna Anti-War Bills
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Our Revolution, the nation’s largest grassroots progressive political organization, condemned President Donald Trump’s reckless and unconstitutional military strikes on Iran. This illegal escalation, launched without congressional approval, is a dangerous step toward yet another endless war—and a blatant attempt to consolidate authoritarian power under the false guise of national security.
Within hours of the attack, tens of thousands of grassroots members of Our Revolution signed a petition urging Congress to immediately back legislation introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Ro Khanna to block unauthorized military action and restore Congress’s constitutional authority over matters of war.
“This is not leadership—it’s a calculated and dangerous abuse of power,” said Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution. “We’ve seen this playbook before. The lies that launched the Iraq War led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, trillions of wasted dollars, and decades of instability. Trump’s strikes on Iran are no different: launched without legal authority, based on false intelligence, and carried out in defiance of diplomacy. Even U.S. intelligence agencies have reported that Iran is nowhere near having a nuclear weapon—this escalation makes the world less stable and puts American lives directly in harm’s way. We must not allow Trump to exploit global instability to expand executive power and wage unchecked war.”
Our Revolution is calling on Democratic leaders to rise to the moment by unequivocally supporting the Sanders and Khanna legislation and making clear that the Democratic Party firmly stands gainst war and unchecked executive power. The American people deserve moral clarity and a strong, principled stance against illegal military action– something we have not seen from Senator Schumer and Representative Jeffries, whose vague and cautious statements fall far short of what this moment demands.
