Fighting Big Tech’s Destructive Data Centers

By Homepage Slot 6

Fighting Big Tech’s Destructive Data Centers

Across the country, communities are standing up to powerful corporations against the unchecked expansion of AI data centers.

From small towns to major cities, residents are organizing to protect their water, energy resources, public health, and local democracy from massive facilities being pushed by some of the world’s richest corporations.

Now, these local fights are coming together into a national movement.

That’s why Our Revolution is proud be part of the National Coalition to Stop Data Centers, a growing alliance of grassroots, environmental, and advocacy organizations working to challenge the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure and demand policies that put people before corporate profits.

At the same time, Bernie Sanders is bringing this fight directly to Washington.

Bernie is calling for a federal moratorium on new data center construction until Congress establishes clear protections for communities, workers, consumers, and the environment. It’s a simple idea: before Big Tech is allowed to build thousands of new facilities across the country, we need safeguards to protect our water, our power grids, and the communities forced to live with the consequences.

That’s why we’re you to stand with Bernie and our movement and add your name to call on Congress enact a federal moratorium on new data centers.

The urgency couldn’t be clearer.

Massive data centers are being proposed at breakneck speed across the country. These facilities consume enormous amounts of land, electricity, and water while generating extraordinary profits for technology corporations and investors.

Communities are increasingly asking a basic question: who benefits?

Too often, local residents are left with higher utility costs, strained infrastructure, constant industrial noise, and growing concerns about water availability, while corporations collect subsidies, tax breaks, and public resources.

The threat is especially severe in regions already struggling with drought.

A recent investigation found that of the 809 new data centers currently planned across the United States, 517 are slated for communities that have experienced drought conditions within the last year.

As public awareness grows, resistance is growing too.

In Monterey Park, California, voters approved the nation’s first ban on data centers by an overwhelming 86 percent. In Ohio, state leaders have begun pulling back tax incentives for data center projects amid growing concerns about their impacts on communities and energy systems.

The message is becoming impossible to ignore:

Communities want a say in decisions that affect their future.

That’s exactly what the National Coalition to Stop Data Centers is fighting for.

The coalition brings together organizations from across the country—including Our Revolution, Third Act, GreenLatinos, MediaJustice, Food & Water Watch, North Carolina Environmental Justice Network, Citizens Action Coalition, Pennsylvania Physicians for Social Responsibility, and many others—to support local organizing efforts and build national pressure for stronger protections.

We’re already seeing state and local leaders step up. In Pennsylvania, State Senator Katie Muth is leading efforts to establish a statewide moratorium on new data centers while communities assess their environmental and economic impacts.

At Our Revolution, we’re mobilizing our grassroots network to support these fights on the ground while building support for Bernie’s federal moratorium.

Because this fight isn’t just about technology.

It’s about whether billion-dollar corporations get to reshape our communities without accountability.

It’s about whether public resources like water and energy are managed for the public good or sacrificed for private profit.

And it’s about whether ordinary people have a voice in decisions that will shape their communities for decades to come.

The AI boom is accelerating.

Our movement must too.

Stand with Bernie Sanders and the National Coalition to Stop Data Centers. Sign the petition demanding a federal moratorium on new AI data centers until strong protections are in place for communities across America.

When we organize, we win.

Evan Menist for New York Senate District 39

By ALL, Endorsement, NY

Evan Menist for New York State Senate

Our Revolution is proud to endorse Evan Menist for New York State Senate in District 39.

Evan is running because he believes our political and economic systems are too often shaped by billionaires and corporate special interests instead of working people and families. His campaign is focused on putting power back in the hands of everyday people and building a Hudson Valley where everyone has a fair chance to thrive.

What stands out about Evan is that he brings together experience in local government, public policy, and community leadership with a clear commitment to economic justice.

A longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, Evan worked his way through school while holding multiple jobs, including as an IT technician, bartender, barback, and security staff member. He later earned a Master of Public Administration while continuing to work full-time.

Evan currently serves on the Poughkeepsie Common Council, where he has fought for tenant protections, housing affordability, tax relief for seniors, government accountability, and sustainable development. He has also worked as a policy researcher and urban planner, helping communities across the Hudson Valley address housing, infrastructure, and economic development challenges.

Today, Evan serves as Co-Executive Director of the Poughkeepsie Farm Project, a nonprofit dedicated to feeding families, educating youth, and building a more resilient regional food system.

His campaign is centered on a bold vision for the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Evan supports universal healthcare through the New York Health Act, universal childcare, and community housing. He argues that these policies can reduce structural inequities, strengthen working families, and ensure that everyone—regardless of background—has the opportunity to succeed.

He is also a strong advocate for worker and union power. Coming from a union family and relying on union healthcare through his wife, Evan has pledged to use the visibility of elected office to support union organizing drives, contract campaigns, and strikes.

At a moment when too many New Yorkers are struggling with housing costs, healthcare expenses, and economic insecurity, Evan is focused on building a government that works for regular people—not wealthy interests.

That’s why Our Revolution is proud to support Evan Menist for State Senate.

When we organize, we win.

Adam Bojak for NY State Assembly (AD-149)

By ALL, Endorsement, NY

Adam Bojak for NY State Assembly (AD-149)

Our Revolution is proud to join Bernie Sanders in endorsing Adam Bojak for NY State Assembly in District 149, who’s running on a bold vision for a healthier, housed, and more affordable Western New York.

Adam has represented everyday New Yorkers as a Family Court and housing rights attorney — helping tenants facing housing disputes, providing free legal services and advice to people dealing with housing problems, and working with families navigating tough challenges.

Now, Adam is bringing that experience to the fight for systemic change.

Adam believes Albany should do more to stand up to corporate greed and ensure that every New Yorker can live a stable and dignified life.

His campaign is built around a simple idea: when our needs are met and the rich pay their fair share, we can build stronger communities for generations to come.

That means fighting for affordable housing and publicly owned social housing. It means protecting tenants, preventing unjust evictions, and stopping vulnerable homeowners from losing their homes to property tax foreclosures. As a housing rights attorney, Adam has seen these challenges firsthand—and he’s running to do something about them.

Adam is also a champion for universal healthcare. He supports the New York Health Act and believes every New Yorker should have healthcare free at the point of service. He is committed to protecting Medicaid, defending reproductive rights, and ensuring access to gender-affirming care.

On labor, Adam recognizes that workers and unions are the backbone of our economy. He’s fighting to strengthen worker protections and address the growing threat of workplace surveillance and unchecked AI systems that can be used against workers.

He also supports investments in public infrastructure, strong public schools, and public services that improve people’s lives—not policies that prioritize corporate profits over community needs.

That’s why Adam Bojak has earned the support of Our Revolution, Bernie Sanders, organized labor, and grassroots progressives across New York.

Western New York deserves a representative who will fight for working people, challenge corporate power, and help build a healthy, housed, and affordable future for all.

When we organize, we win.

Trey Martin For Congress in OK-05

By ALL, Endorsement, OK

Trey Martin For Congress in OK-05

Our Revolution is proud to join Bernie Sanders in supporting Trey Martin for Congress in Oklahoma’s 5th District.

Trey is an ironworker, union leader, husband, and father. As President of Ironworkers Local 48, he’s spent his career fighting for fair wages, good benefits, and respect on the job for Oklahoma workers.

And unlike most members of Congress, Trey knows firsthand what happens when our healthcare system fails.

When his wife became seriously ill with an autoimmune disease in 2020, Trey and his family nearly went bankrupt trying to get a diagnosis and pay for treatment — despite having union health insurance.

“Every American deserves healthcare that should help you get better, not put you in debt,” Trey said. “Healthcare should be a lifeline, not a scam. We need Medicare for all.”

That’s not just Trey’s story. It’s the story of millions of Americans who work hard, play by the rules, and still get crushed by a system designed to benefit big corporations and insurance companies.

Trey Martin would bring something Washington desperately needs: a worker’s perspective.

He’s running to lower costs and raise wages, build stronger unions and pass the PRO Act — and expand apprenticeship and trade programs so more young people can build careers without taking on crushing debt.

Trey supports a ban on congressional stock trading and refuses Corporate PAC money because he believes elected officials should serve their constituents—not wealthy donors and special interests.

“Politicians shouldn’t be getting rich off the job. Billionaires and corporations shouldn’t be buying our elections,” Trey said.

That’s why he’s pushing to close corporate tax loopholes, stop multinational corporations from hiding profits overseas, break up monopolies, and take on concentrated corporate power—from Big Pharma to Big Tech.

And, in a district that’s home to Native communities from all 39 tribes in Oklahoma, Trey is committed to protecting tribal sovereignty and supporting tribal-led healthcare, education, and economic development.

In a time when too many politicians are focused on culture-war distractions and division while working families struggle with rising costs, Trey is focused on the issues that directly affect people’s lives: jobs, wages, healthcare, corruption, and economic fairness.

Let’s get to working class representation in Congress. Our Revolution is proud to stand with Trey Martin.

When we organize, we win.

Patrick Nelson for NY State Senate (SD-44)

By ALL, Endorsement, NY

Patrick Nelson for NY State Senate (SD-44)

Our Revolution is proud to endorse Patrick Nelson for New York State Senate in District 44.

Patrick represents exactly the kind of bold, independent leadership our movement needs more of in Albany.

A two-term Village Trustee in Stillwater, Patrick has repeatedly won elections in a community that votes more than 60% Republican. He has done it by focusing on the issues that matter most to working people and by proving that progressive values can win anywhere when candidates are willing to fight for them.

Just as importantly, Patrick has never accepted contributions from corporations, corporate PACs, or lobbyists. Patrick is campaigning for a simple principle: our government should answer to people, not powerful donors. That’s why he supports banning corporate contributions in New York elections.

Patrick is sounding the alarm about the unchecked power of Big Tech and artificial intelligence. While corporations race to build massive energy-hungry data centers across the country, Patrick is calling for a three-year statewide moratorium on new data center projects so communities can fully understand their impacts on energy costs, infrastructure, the environment, and local democracy before it’s too late.

He also supports a New York Constitutional Right to Talk to a Human Being, ensuring people aren’t trapped navigating automated systems when seeking critical services. He believes life-altering decisions—from healthcare to housing to public services—should be made by people, not algorithms.

Patrick is fighting to make New York more affordable. From universal healthcare at the state level to his Affordable Housing Communities proposal would provide incentives for local governments to build lower-cost rental housing and homeownership opportunities, he has real plans to improve life for working families.

In an era when too many politicians are content to manage problems, Patrick Nelson is offering real solutions. He is taking on corporate influence, defending democratic accountability, fighting for affordable housing, and ensuring technology serves the public interest—not the other way around.

That’s why Our Revolution is proud to endorse Patrick Nelson for New York State Senate District 44.

When we organize, we win.

Jon Rivera for NY State Senate (SD-61)

By ALL, Endorsement, NY

Our Revolution is proud to endorse Jon Rivera for New York State Senate District 61.

Jon is a lifelong Western New Yorker and State Assemblymember who has built a record of delivering results. His campaign is grounded in a simple promise: leadership that shows up for workers, families, and neighborhoods — not just when it is politically convenient, but every day.

Jon has already proven what people-first leadership looks like. In the Assembly, he has championed housing protections, refugee resettlement, education investment, lead poisoning prevention, and community development. He has secured major investments in housing, youth programs, public schools, libraries, local infrastructure, cultural institutions, and community spaces that families can see and feel.

That is exactly the kind of progressive leadership Western New York needs in the State Senate.

Jon is running to deliver living wages, affordable child care, good jobs, stronger schools, and more affordable homes. And he understands that protecting the environment is a public health issue — from reducing lead exposure to cleaning up contaminated sites and supporting sustainable development.

At a time when MAGA extremism is threatening our rights, freedoms, and democracy, Jon is clear about what is at stake. Western New Yorkers deserve a senator who will defend democracy, reject extremism, and fight for what is right.

Our Revolution was founded to build progressive power from the ground up — in city halls, school boards, state legislatures, and Congress. Electing Jon Rivera to the New York State Senate would strengthen that movement and send a proven fighter for working families to Albany.

Jon has delivered before. Now, he is ready to keep fighting for every corner of the 61st District.

Our Revolution is proud to stand with Jon Rivera for New York State Senate.

Election Day: New York’s primary election is Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Polls are open from 6 AM to 9 PM, and early voting runs June 13–21.

We’re halfway through the Democratic primaries, and Our Revolution has endorsed hundreds of candidates at all levels of government and made over 3.5 MILLION voter contacts!

To stop the worst of the Trump regime, we need to win back the House and Senate in November — but first we need to get the best and boldest candidates on the ballot.

ILHAN OMAR HEADLINES OUR REVOLUTION TOWN HALL

This week, over 50,000 activists tuned in to our LIVE National Organize to Win Town Hall featuring Rep. Ilhan Omar and six of our top progressive candidates.

Ilhan commended the courage of those protesting ICE in Newark, NJ — and said her fellow Minnesotans are still traumatized by the ICE raids that killed two people last winter.

"We went through what we did so no other American city would have to experience that level of terror,” Ilhan said. She told us she stays positive, inspired by the grassroots: "We can give in to fear, despair, and hate—or we can choose love, hope, and courage."

WALA BLEGAY VS. BIG MONEY

Wala Blegay, our candidate for Congress in Maryland’s 5th - the seat held for decades by retiring Rep. Steny Hoyer - denounced the millions that AIPAC, crypto, and AI special interests are pouring into the race for her opponent - a data center lobbyist backed by Hoyer’s establishment machine.

Unlike her opponent, Wala signed Our Revolution's People's Pledge to reject corporate PAC money. To counter the flood of big spending, Our Revolution’s field team is making over 50,000 voter contacts by making calls and knocking on doors!

WHY TRUMP MEGADONORS FEAR ALEX BORES

As a member of the NY State Assembly, Alex Bores led the fight to pass the RAISE Act, the strongest AI regulation in the country.

This put him directly in the crosshairs of Big Tech. Top Trump megadonors, including Marc Andreessen, are spending upwards of $10 million to defeat Alex’s bid to win the primary in NY’s 12th Congressional District which covers Manhattan.

“If they win, they go to every member of Congress and say, ‘Don't you dare regulate AI or we'll make sure you lose your seat,’” Alex Bores told our town hall audience Monday.

“Right now, the decisions about AI are being made by five billionaires instead of the American people,” Bores said. “We the people decide how AI is regulated. But that’s so terrifying to these oligarchs, they started a super PAC to try to make an example of me.”

The primary is on June 23rd, and Our Revolution organizers are making over 145,000 voter contacts by calls, texts, and postcards to get Alex over the finish line.

HOW WE BEAT MIKE LAWLER IN NY

Effie Phillips-Staley, a Tarrytown trustee and candidate for Congress in NY-17, made the case on our call that Democrats don't need to move right to win competitive districts like hers, which is represented by GOP Rep. Mike Lawler.

To flip this critical seat, she argued that Democrats should focus on affordability and economic security.

“When we speak about economic populism, we are speaking to the broadest audience possible,” she said, pointing to housing costs, childcare expenses, healthcare, and stagnant wages as the issues voters raise most often.

Our Revolution’s organizing team is helping Effie get out her message by making over 50,000 voter contacts in the primary!

YUH-LINE NIOU: HOW PROGRESSIVES ARE WINNING

“Even when it feels like we're losing, we've kept winning,” Yuh-Line Niou said on the call. “We elected AOC and stunned the political establishment. Zohran Mamdani stepped up, and again we did what everyone said we couldn’t do: We Won.”

Yuh-Line helped lead efforts to tax the rich and expand tenant protections in the NY Assembly. Now running for State Senate in District 27 in lower Manhattan, she said too many Democratic leaders have lost the political courage to take on billionaires and address the affordability crisis.

Despite being outspent, she knows the path to victory. “We won't be outworked or out-organized.” The Our Revolution organizing team is pitching in to help - we’re on our way to making over 35,000 voter contacts before the June 23rd primary!

Check out our other progressive New York endorsements on our website, including Claire Valdez and Darializa Chevalier who are running for Congress with the backing of Zohran Mamdani.

THE UTAH PROGRESSIVE FIGHTING DATA CENTERS

Nate Blouin joined our town hall to discuss his campaign for Congress in Utah's 1st District and his fight against the massive data center proposed near the Great Salt Lake. Election Day is coming up quickly on June 23rd.

Endorsed by Bernie, Blouin argued the push for the data center is “at the heart of everything that is wrong with our politics.”

“It is about corruption, environmental degradation, and how bad things happen when we don't shine a light on them,” he said. "People feel left behind, and we need to stand up and fight.”

CALIFORNIA PRIMARY: RESULTS INCOMING

We’re still waiting for results from California’s big election on Tuesday, but as more ballots drop, Tom Steyer is rising in the count for Governor — though he still trails establishment favorite Xavier Becerra and Trump-backed Steve Hilton for the top two spots.

Meanwhile, Jane Kim - a former Bernie campaign veteran - won her primary for state Insurance Commissioner, an office overseeing a $3.3 trillion industry.

She’s proposing bold reforms, including a public single-payer disaster insurance program that would pool premiums publicly and invest in community resilience instead of corporate profits.

Aisha Wahab, our candidate for Congress in CA-14, also won on Tuesday, and now heads to the special election on June 16th to serve the remainder of the term left by disgraced Rep. Eric Swalwell.

Randy Villegas, a Bernie-endorsed organizer in California’s Central Valley, made it through the primary in CA-22 and will now face off against GOP incumbent David Valadao in this critical flippable seat. Watch Randy speak to Our Rev members here!

Mai Vang, a bold progressive Sacramento City Councillor, successfully advanced in her primary in CA-07 and will go head to head against 20-year Democratic incumbent Doris Matsui.

And of course progressive Reps. Ro Khanna and Lateefah Simon won their primaries and are heading to November — with our movement at their backs.

BIG PROGRESSIVE WINS IN NJ & PA

Tuesday's primary elections delivered important wins for the progressive movement outside of California as well.

In New Jersey, community organizer Analilia Mejia and Dr. Adam Hamawy — a trauma surgeon, Army veteran, and public health champion — both advanced after running on people-powered politics over corporate influence.

And, in Montana, Sam Forstag, a smokejumper and union leader, will be the Democratic nominee for Montana’s 1st Congressional District. He did not shrink when taking on corporate landlords, big money or the billionaire class — and he won!

In the Pennsylvania primaries in May, Our Revolution-backed candidates Chris Rabb (PA-03) and Bob Brooks (PA-07) scored major victories.

A 20-year firefighter and union leader, Brooks won by running as a working-class champion focused on affordable healthcare, union jobs, and taking on corporate power — and Rabb's victory in Philadelphia showed the growing strength of bold progressive ideas and people-powered organizing over establishment politics.

WATCH A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM CHRIS RABB TO THE OUR REVOLUTION FAMILY

As Our Revolution's Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese told the Associated Press, Rabb's win should send a clear message that Democratic voters "want transformational change.”

UPCOMING JUNE PRIMARIES

Now, we get ready for primary elections in June. Election Days are fast approaching and our organizers are busy getting out the vote to get our allies over the finish line.

In Maine, we’re facing off against establishment Democrats who are openly trying to take down Bernie’s 2016 state co-chair Matt Dunlap in the race for Congress in ME-2. Our organizers’ goal is to make over 35,000 calls for Matt ahead of Election Day THIS TUESDAY, June 9th.

And we’re out there organizing for Troy Jackson, a union leader who’s spent decades on the picket line, now running for Governor to finally put working people ahead of big business.

In Colorado, Election Day is June 30th, and we’re backing Melat Kiros against a nearly 30-year establishment incumbent in one of America’s most progressive congressional districts.

Julie Gonzales, a lifelong organizer, is taking on another member of the establishment in the Senate primary, running on a record of lifting up immigrants and workers. See our other Colorado endorsements here.

And in D.C., Election Day is June 16th, and Janeese Lewis George is taking on the establishment for the mayor’s seat where she can fight back against Trump in the nation’s capital.

Our Revolution was by her side when she ran for city council with a vision for true affordability, and won. Now, she’s pledging public-run groceries, universal childcare – and we’re right there with her.

This is a critical election year, and we have a lot of work ahead of us. Donate to make sure we have the resources to get these working class fighters elected in the primaries and defeat MAGA in the Midterms.

Aparna Raj for DC Council, Ward 1

By ALL, DC, Endorsement

Aparna Raj for DC Council, Ward 1

Our Revolution is proud to endorse Aparna Raj for DC Council in Ward 1.

Aparna is a community organizer, union member, tenant advocate, and the daughter of immigrants who has spent years fighting alongside working people in Washington, DC. Her campaign is grounded in a simple belief: government should work for ordinary people — not wealthy insiders, corporate developers, or special interests. She understands the challenges facing working families because she’s been organizing around them for years.

As a tenant organizer, Aparna has helped residents take on negligent landlords, fight unsafe housing conditions, and win real improvements for tenants. She has advocated for stronger tenant protections and served on the ANC 1A Housing Justice and Zoning Committee, working to ensure housing policy serves residents instead of developer profits.

As a union member, she served on her bargaining committee to win better pay and benefits for workers. She has fought to raise the tipped minimum wage and stood with workers organizing for dignity and economic justice across the city.

Those experiences have shaped a bold vision for Ward 1 and for Washington, DC.

Aparna is campaigning to expand affordable housing and strengthen rent control protections so that working families, seniors, and longtime residents can remain in the communities they helped build. She supports expanding childcare access and moving toward universal free childcare so that no family is forced to choose between financial stability and caring for their children. She is committed to defending immigrants, federal workers, LGBTQ+ communities, and DC’s right to self-government against attacks from right-wing politicians and powerful interests.

At a moment when working people are being priced out of their neighborhoods and corporate influence too often dominates politics, Aparna represents the kind of leadership our movement needs.

Her campaign is powered by grassroots supporters, not corporate donors. She understands that meaningful change comes from organized people coming together to fight for their communities. That’s the same principle Our Revolution was founded on when millions of Bernie supporters came together to build a political home for the progressive movement.

We don’t just need better policies. We need leaders who will organize with their communities, challenge entrenched power, and build lasting change from the ground up.

That’s why electing progressives to city councils, school boards, state legislatures, and local offices is so important. These are the leaders who shape people’s daily lives and who form the foundation of a stronger progressive movement nationwide. Building power locally is how we win nationally.

Aparna Raj is exactly the kind of movement leader Our Revolution was created to support.

She has spent years fighting for tenants, workers, immigrants, and families. She’s running a people-powered campaign rooted in community organizing and economic justice. And she’s ready to bring that same commitment to Ward 1 on the DC Council.

Our Revolution is proud to endorse Aparna Raj for DC Council.

Join us in supporting her campaign and helping build a government that puts people before profits.
