HEADLINES: 2024 Homestretch Kick Off | Ilhan Omar on Tim Walz | John Nichols: Bold Economic Vision | Swing State Survey Results | CA Rent Control | Chicago School Board | Denver Worker Rights | New Endorsements | Phonebank Week | & MORE!

With just ONE MONTH to Election Day, Our Revolution’s GOTV operation is in full force in the swing states to defeat Trump once and for all. Chip in to help us make 5 million voter contacts into the 7 battleground states.

Ilhan Omar joined Our Revolution and thousands of progressives tuning in LIVE from around the country to kick off the final Homestretch of the 2024 Election.

Ilhan knows how crucial grassroots GOTV work is in a turnout election — and how important it is to reach voters who may face language barriers or need extra help getting to the polls. She also knows the stakes of this election.

“In Minnesota we made transformative legislation with Tim Walz as Governor, and I know that’s possible for us as progressives to have that level of co-governance with him if he becomes the VP of this country,” Ilhan said.

Also on the Live Call, we released Our Revolution’s Swing State Survey results (see below) and drilled down on exciting down ballot fights for housing, union rights, climate, education, and more.

Donate any amount to help ramp up our on-the-ground organizing in the battleground states and beyond. We’re on a mission to beat Trump and elect more progressives at every level.

Writer John Nichols of The Nation joined our discussion, sharing his insights on the state of the race after traveling the swing states.

John said voters are hungry for a clear vision for economic renewal, and that the Harris/Walz ticket needs to do better in rural areas than both Hillary and Biden did in order to win.

“For young voters or disenchanted voters, there’s an intersection between raising wages, access to unions, restoring manufacturing, and saving the planet. They need to hear that 21st Century vision,” he said.

SURVEY RESULTS

From our survey of more than 1,400 Our Revolution supporters in the 7 swing states, we’re seeing some worrying signs of a motivation gap among progressives.

One in four told us they know progressives who aren’t planning to vote for Harris — and four out of five think Harris providing more policy details would help sway voters in their swing state.

We know that celebrity endorsements won’t be enough — it will take voter-to-voter outreach to make up the tight margins in states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Unfortunately, our organizers and survey-takers are reporting an influx of grassroots Trump canvassers and door-knockers — and the majority say they’re seeing more Trump signs than Harris signs in their neighborhoods.

WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO

★ ★ ★

The polls are razor thin, and Our Revolution is carrying out a massive Swing State Operation to make 5 million voter contacts into the key battleground states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Biden/Harris narrowly beat Trump by less than 300,000 votes in these states four years ago, and 2024 will be a turnout election — whichever side runs the most effective voter mobilization will prevail.

Our Revolution organizers like William and Jessica are hitting the streets in the 7 swing states that will decide the 2024 presidential election.

Not only are we knocking doors and setting up events for direct voter outreach — our national team is mounting a massive phonebank operation. (p.s. Can you spot our GOTV kitty in the picture above?)

We must maximize the next 30 days to Nov. 5th. Please pitch in any amount to power our Swing State Strategy — there’s no time to waste.

★ ★ ★

For those who can’t donate, we hope you’ll consider volunteering for a shift with our Swing State Phone Bank — which kicked off this week with thousands of calls into Pennsylvania and Arizona.

This is the best way for progressives to make an impact from anywhere in the country, and have fun while we’re at it! This is how we run up the margins where it matters most.

To illustrate just how powerful the grassroots can be, look no further than the victory of Dave Upthegrove for WA State Public Lands Commissioner — a key seat for climate and the environment.

Our Revolution made 300,000 voter contacts into the state ahead of election day, then helped chase down ballots to beat Big Timber’s hand-picked candidates by just 49 votes — out of more than 2 million votes cast!

“The takeaway is simple. Every vote matters,” Dave told us on the Live Call Monday night. “Timber put $1.2 million behind our opponent and we won by running a grassroots campaign. Our Revolution’s work matters, keep it up!”

With his background in conservation, Dave will protect the forests, work to prevent forest fires, and grow local economies. And he will be the first openly gay statewide executive in state history!

Chip in to help us scale up this kind of work to beat Trump and the far right, while electing more progressives like Dave up and down the ballot.

★ ★ ★

Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates joined our Live Call and laid out our plan to elect a progressive school board in Chicago.

For the FIRST time ever, Chicago voters will be able to elect their school board members — and Our Revolution is supporting CTU’s powerful slate of 10 progressives on the ballot.

“We have expanded democracy in the city of Chicago,” Stacy told us. “It’s an amazing feat, and it only happened because we organized AND we voted AND we went on Strike.. and and and..” Our diverse movement is fighting on every terrain — and that’s how we win.

★ ★ ★

NEW ENDORSEMENTS

“For the people, not the powerful.” That’s the rallying cry of the campaign of Dean Preston for San Francisco Supervisor (D-5) — who has the support of both Our Revolution and Bernie Sanders.

Our powerhouse slate in Northern California also includes Kate Harrison for Mayor of Berkeley, Vinnie Bacon for Mayor of Fremont, Carroll Fife for Oakland City Council (D-3), Jackie Fielder for SF Supervisor (D-9), and Lynda Deschambault for East Bay Parks District (Ward 2).

These are candidates who have a record of championing the issues that directly impact the bottom line of moneyed interests — from taxing the rich to protecting tenants rights. Let’s get them into office!

★ ★ ★

★ ★ ★

Housing has rightfully become a top national issue this election season. We’re proud to be part of the coalition fighting for direct policy change in California that could be replicated in other states.

Michael Weinstein of Justice for Renters joined our Live Call Monday to rally for Prop 33 — the ballot measure for CA Rent Control which would also allow local communities to stop predatory corporate landlords from charging unfair rent.

“The rent is too damn high,” Michael said. “California is the poorest state by standard of living. Billionaire corporate landlords are sucking this country dry. They’re using algorithms to squeeze the last bit of money out of tenants.”

“Solving the housing affordability crisis requires a variety of approaches, but it starts with the rent,” he said. This is why Our Revolution is calling, texting, emailing, and having conversations with Californians to vote Yes on Prop 33.

★ ★ ★

"We’re poised to win worker’s rights at the ballot box in Denver,” CWA Organizer Katie Romich told our live audience Monday night.

Our Revolution is proudly supporting the Stronger Denver ballot measure for collective bargaining rights for all public workers — Vote Yes on 2U!

Despite NOT having organizing rights, Denver workers joined together and built the political power to get collective bargaining on the ballot, Katie explained. She thanked Our Revolution for mobilizing to make over 50,000 voter contacts to get the Mayor and City Council to stand with workers.

★ ★ ★

CLIMATE CATASTROPHE

This is climate chaos in action — and one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history. Our Revolution is joining with Sunrise Movement, Friends of the Earth, and other great organizations to hold Big Oil accountable for the horrific damage of storms like Hurricane Helene.

The full scale of devastation is still being calculated, but hundreds of Americans are dead from Florida northward to Western North Carolina. FEMA has specifically cited climate change as having made the storm more dangerous.

Insult to injury — our own tax dollars continue to supercharge disasters like Helene. Instead of taxpayers pouring $20 billion a year in subsidies to Big Oil, we should be charging them a tax to clean up their fossil-fueled disasters.

Billionaires and corporate cronies are pouring millions into the 2024 election trying to elect Trump AND beat some of our top progressive champions — but we refuse to be silenced by the donor class.

We must out-organize the Big Money and rightwing extremists with a massive GOTV operation in the swing states and beyond. Donate to Our Revolution’s Swing State Fund to help us make 5 million voter contacts into the 7 key battleground states.

DONALD TRUMP WON... AGAIN.
— How did we get here? —

“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them,” Sen. Bernie Sanders said the morning after the election.

“First it was the white working class, and now it’s Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic Party leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.

“In the coming months, those of us concerned with grassroots democracy and economic justice need to have some very serious discussions. Stay tuned,” Bernie said.

It’s time for the Democratic Party to take stock and heed the warnings that progressives and working class Americans have been raising for years.

Bernie founded Our Revolution to take on corporate power, elect progressives, and transform the party — which is exactly what we’re going to do in 2025 as we fight back against Trump every step of the way. Chip in to the resistance here.

Our Revolution made more than 5,000,000 voter contacts into the battleground states — door knocking, calls, texts, emails, and more — flipping many folks who weren’t planning to vote for VP Harris — but it wasn’t enough.

For weeks, Our Rev Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese spoke out to the AP and NPR about the campaign’s dangerous strategy to court Republicans at the expense of the base, as our surveys and voter conversations revealed a worrying motivation gap for Harris.

“We were seeing clear evidence that buddying up with the Cheneys and parroting conservative talking points rather than leaning into a strong, populist economic message was turning off voters,” Joseph told the NYT.

"We sounded the alarm,” he said to Axios. “But the party wouldn’t listen. They took the base for granted. People were voting their self-interest, which is their pocketbooks. Trump had an economic story, though flawed, while Harris’ narrative was vague.”

That’s why Our Revolution “aggressively worked to engage these voters on issues like job creation, wages, housing and health care to close the narrow margin,” Axios reported. In the end, just 5% of Republicans voted for Harris — less than voted for Joe Biden.

The Times asked Joseph who the Democratic Party would blame if they lost, and we already knew the answer:

“As they always do, the establishment will blame progressives instead of taking a serious look in the mirror and acknowledging their failure to lay out a clear vision for addressing the very real economic pain folks are feeling,” Joseph said.

Like clockwork, Bernie is being attacked by corporate Democrats for pointing out the obvious. Joseph summarized it well when he told Axios: “Voters want a leader who will take on corporate interests to improve their standard of living. The struggle is real, whether you’re Gen Z or a laid-off factory worker.”

Now, more than ever, we must transform the Party to be more democratic and responsive to the working class in order to beat back Trump and rising rightwing authoritarianism. Help us build our network of organizers and make sure we are prepared for 2025. Thank you.

★ ★ ★

In our post-election survey of more than 12,000 progressives, 85% told us they’re feeling Angry, Sad, and Depressed. The rest told us they’re Shocked or Confused.

While some ranked misogyny, racism, and xenophobia as factors in the election, many pointed to the neglect of working people, the failure of the Democratic Party, the late switch from Biden to Harris, and the campaign’s misguided focus on Cheney Republicans and celebrities.

76% said they believe the Democratic Party has lost its way, and 91% said they believe the Party has long neglected the multiracial working class.

★ ★ ★

You’re not alone. The election results are devastating. This is a setback, but here’s the truth: we can’t let this defeat us.

We’re going to do everything in our power to hold Trump and his fossil fuel cronies accountable — every step of the way. We're building a climate movement that is 365 days strong, and together, we can make a difference.

Join us on Wednesday (Nov. 13) for a special virtual event Beyond the Ballot with Jane Fonda, Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese, and Sunrise Movement Executive Director Aru Shiney-Ajay.

Be in good company as we break down the results and strategize our next steps to turn this moment into a powerful push for change. It’s time to turn our anger into action. Will you join us? RSVP HERE.

BALLOT MEASURE WINS!

Ballot measures were a critical part of our work because we knew we wanted to use this election to deliver real change for people’s lives and make our communities more resilient in case of a Trump victory.

Here are just a couple of the winning propositions from Tuesday night:

In Denver, all public workers will finally have union rights they’ve been denied for far too long thanks to passage of 2U. We were proud to phonebank, text, and email voters to help fix Denver’s broken laws so librarians, sanitation workers, and others could take their rightful seat at the table to advocate for their safety, pay, and benefits.

In Massachusetts, Our Revolution worked to get out the vote for YES ON 3 which allows Uber and Lyft drivers to join a union in Massachusetts if they want to!

This will now empower rideshare drivers with the option to form a union, while maintaining flexibility and independence. AND, it will help drivers negotiate for better pay, working conditions and job protections.

Missouri voted for a handful progressive ballot measures - including a minimum wage increase and paid family leave. And Missouri joined 6 other states in passing abortion rights!

★ ★ ★

★ ★ ★

DOWN BALLOT CHAMPIONS

Silver linings this election come from crucial down ballot wins — which is why Our Revolution is dedicated to building progressive power from the bottom up!

Here are just a few highlights from our many down ballot victories:

Lateefah Simon will be the next member of our growing Progressive Caucus in Congress — joining some of our top progressive leaders like Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Pramila Jayapal, all vocal advocates for peace who won their races by a wide margin.

Our Revolution has been in Lateefah’s corner since she announced her run to replace retiring Congresswoman Barbara Lee in California’s 12th District. And she’s a strong voice for healthcare, worker rights, and housing.

“These are local issues, but the federal government has an opportunity to bring back resources to the ground in our communities. The old party line isn’t working anymore,” Lateefah told us. “We don’t need to be scared of folks who are on the other side of our politics because we have been here before.”

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is continuing to build progressive power in the heartland. Over multiple election cycles in St. Louis, we worked with President Megan Green of the Board of Alders to build a governing majority on the city council. This Election Day, we grew our influence by organizing to elect Marty Murray to the Missouri House and Alfred Montgomery as Sheriff of St. Louis City.

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution partnered with the Chicago Teachers Union to fight against the Charter School billionaires and elect a slate of 4 new members to the School Board. Our progressive voting bloc includes public education champions Jennifer Custer, Ebony Deberry, Jitu Brown, and Yesenia Lopez.

“Project 2025-aligned billionaires lost big in Chicago. Despite all they invested to block our union's vision for public schools, they won’t be able to stop Chicago’s commitment to finally delivering for communities who have been told to go without for generations,” CTU president Stacy Davis Gates said.

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution endorsed candidate Jackie Fielder handily won her race to succeed San Francisco Supervisor Hillary Ronen, also an Our Revolution ally. Our Revolution backed Jackie’s first run for state senate in 2020 which she lost to the establishment Dem.

★ ★ ★

NEW ENDORSEMENT

There’s a special election in Virginia on Nov. 16, and Our Revolution is proud to endorse Ibraheem Samirah for VA State Senate District 32.

Big problems require bold solutions like the ones Ibraheem championed in the Virginia House of Delegates — including state-level Medicare for All, a Virginia Green New Deal, and quality, affordable housing.

The SD-32 primary is the national progressive movement’s opening salvo against Trump. We need to win elections by sending in a new generation of leaders who are unafraid to take the fight to MAGA extremists and will offer a bold vision for the future.

★ ★ ★

★ ★ ★

In our post-election survey of more than 12,000 progressives, one of the top fears of progressives is that Trump will roll back climate protections and double down on his pledge to drill baby drill.

We’re going to do everything in our power to hold Trump and his fossil fuel cronies accountable — every step of the way. We’re building a climate movement that is 365 days strong, and together, we can make a difference.

Join us on Wednesday (Nov. 13) for a special virtual event Beyond the Ballot with Jane Fonda, Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese, and Sunrise Movement Executive Director Aru Shiney-Ajay.

We are just weeks away from Election Day, and Our Revolution is hosting a LIVE Call on Monday, Sept. 30th to jumpstart the 2024 Homestretch with U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar and The Nation’s John Nichols to discuss the state of the race.

We will also drill down on exciting down ballot races and ballot measures that will directly impact crucial issues like housing, union rights, and climate. You don’t want to miss this! RSVP here to join us LIVE at 8:30pm ET/5:30 PT on Monday 9/30.

In a rare and shocking move, the Teamsters Union announced it will not endorse the Democratic candidate for President, VP Harris.

Not only does this mean LESS boots on the ground in this final homestretch to Election Day, but NEARLY 60% of Teamsters say they’re voting for Donald Trump!

Working class voters are pivotal in this election, and it’s up to us to get the word out on Trump’s economic policies and his broken promises to workers. Help us urgently expand our organizing in the swing states.

★ ★ ★

In Our Revolution’s post-debate survey of 12,000 progressives, we found a motivation deficit that must be overcome if we hope to defeat Trump in November. Some worrying signs:

  • HALF indicated they’re not motivated to talk to friends and family or volunteer to help turnout voters.
  • Nearly HALF have doubts that Harris will take on corporate power, and a quarter distrust her authenticity.

Look, we’re not crazy about the Dick Cheney endorsement either (as Our Rev Director Joseph Geevarghese told The Atlantic), but we’ve seen Harris can be moved on issues from medical debt to price-gouging. If you want to help make sure we have a terrain to fight on in 2025 — rather than battling Trump for four years — chip in here.

★ ★ ★

With polls tight, Our Revolution launched a massive Swing State Operation to make 5 million voter contacts into the 7 key battleground states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Biden/Harris narrowly beat Trump by less than 300,000 votes in these states four years ago, and 2024 will be a turnout election — whichever side runs the most effective voter mobilization will prevail.

The mature forests of Washington State may have just been saved by a mere 49 votes that gave Dave Upthegrove victory in his race for Public Lands Commissioner.

Our Revolution carried out ballot curing efforts that validated 57 ballots to make the margin of victory — out of 1.9 million votes cast. We also made over 300,000 voter contacts in the lead up to this election!

Dave was the only candidate not funded by the timber industry. With his background in conservation, Dave will protect the forests, work to prevent forest fires, and grow local economies. And he will be the first openly gay statewide executive in state history!

★ ★ ★

In Massachusetts, we’re celebrating the victories of U.S. Reps. Ayanna Pressley and Jim McGovern — both champions for progressive economic policies that uplift working families. They have both called for a ceasefire and to freeze US military assistance to Israel.

Down ballot, we have two more progressive victories: Mara Dolan for the Governor’s Council in District 3, and Allison Cartwright for Supreme Judicial Clerk in Suffolk County.

Chip in to help us beat Trump and the far right, while electing more progressives like these up and down the ballot this November.

★ ★ ★

Congrats to Jacqueline "Jack" Porter who WON as the clear progressive choice for Tallahassee City Commission — where we are now just ONE seat away from achieving a progressive majority!

Porter is focused on the affordable housing crisis, economic insecurity, gun violence, and environmental justice — and her strongest opponent is a real estate developer backed by the police union.

★ ★ ★

Congratulations to our winning candidates in Rhode Island! This is how we make a more progressive State House that will deliver for working people and families.

State Reps. Enrique Sanchez, Brandon Potter, Kelsey Coletta, and Cherie Cruz will fight for fair wages for all workers, solutions to the housing crisis, and better education and healthcare for all.

★ ★ ★

Victory in Delaware! Congrats to Eric Morrison for State Representative in District 27. Eric will be an incredible ally in the fight for economic and social justice in the State House.

We are proud to support him in his mission to advance paid sick leave, an end to the criminalization of poverty, growing union power, and more.

NEW ENDORSEMENTS

Our Revolution just endorsed three new candidates for Richmond City Council in California! Claudia Jimenez, Sue Wilson, and Melvin Willis have all spent years in service to their communities.

We know they will remain undaunted in their commitment to our progressive values as leaders on the council — from social justice to protecting the environment. This is how we build power from the bottom up.

Please chip in any amount to help power our voter turnout operations in 2024. As we battle Trump and the far right, we must also invest in defending AND expanding progressive power across the country.

As Politico reported, Our Revolution is getting out the vote for Yes on Prop 33 — the ballot measure for much-needed Rent Control in California.

We’re phone banking, texting, emailing, and having one-on-one conversations with California voters — and many are sharing their housing stories and struggles with us.

Orin in Santa Rosa is having to live on a small boat because it’s simply too expensive to live on land in California.

Arianna, a new mother in Whittier, said her partner works 12 hours a day and they can still barely afford to live. “A man was recently killed in a drive-by shooting on our street,” she said crying. “It isn’t safe here, but it's the only apartment that we can afford.”

The rent is too damn high! The AVERAGE rent is now $2,895 in California, and more than 171,000 people are now homeless in the state.

Not only will Prop 33 allow cities and counties to expand Rent Control, it will allow local communities to stop predatory corporate landlords from charging unfair and unaffordable rents.

We are proud to be part of this massive coalition of renters, families, veterans, seniors, and young people fighting alongside social justice organizations and labor unions for Justice for Renters.

Bernie Sanders went live from the Senate floor this week to call for an end to U.S. support for Netanyahu’s war on Gaza.

He announced that he will introduce a resolution to STOP the $20 billion U.S. weapons sale to Israel because our government is breaking U.S. and international law by continuing to fund Netanyahu’s war regime.

Stand with Bernie: Support his resolution to block weapons sales to Israel. Not another nickel, and not another bomb, for Netanyahu’s immoral war on the people of Gaza.

BIG OIL vs. GREENPEACE

Greenpeace is under attack from the notorious corporate polluter Energy Transfer - which is trying to bankrupt the organization for standing up against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

As Rep. Jamie Raskin told the Wall Street Journal, "Energy Transfer’s $300 million lawsuit against Greenpeace shows how megacorporations deploy legal strategies to strong-arm and crush their critics."

Our Revolution is joining with hundreds of our allies to demand that the corporation - which also is behind the massive pipeline fire now raging in Houston - to drop the meritless lawsuit, warning that it “could have a chilling effect on anyone engaged in peaceful protest and assembly.”

HEADLINES: VP Walz and the Swing States | Dem Convention Kickoff | Superdelegates Gone for Good? | Bernie, Omar & Jayapal Victories | Clean Sweep for Vermont Slate | CA Rent Cap on the Ballot! | & MORE!

★ ★ ★

The Democratic National Convention kicks off this week in Chicago, where the party platform and strategy to defeat Trump will come into sharper focus.

With Kamala Harris choosing a progressive running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, many are hopeful it’s a sign that the Party is listening to the base and embracing a working class agenda.

Walz has a strong record on labor, school meals, housing, paid leave, child poverty, taxing corporations, fighting wage theft, and more — and our polling shows these are winning policies in swing states.

“Walz is an excellent pick for VP. He’s the anti-elite candidate and comes across as the Everyman,” Joseph Geevarghese, Our Revolution executive director, told The Atlantic. “This is a sign Democrats understand they cannot win against Trumpism without pushing policies that resonate with working-class voters in the Midwest and beyond.”

Our mission in 2024 is clear: Defeat Trump. The Harris/Walz ticket is coming into the DNC with a lot of energy, but we need to keep building on this momentum all the way to November.

Our Revolution is activating our voter turnout operations in the battleground states with a goal of reaching 5 million voter contacts before Election Day! Please chip in any amount to our Swing State Fund to help us reach our $1 million goal.

★ ★ ★

It’s our birthday! Next week marks 8 years since Bernie founded Our Revolution and sparked a movement that has advanced the progressive agenda at every level of government and elected 1,000+ progressives across the country!

We are celebrating big wins with Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar, and many other great Our Revolution candidates this week — but we have a lot more work to do between now and November.

AIPAC and rightwing mega-donors are still targeting some of our top progressive allies in Congress. Chip in a donation to help us defend and expand progressive power up and down the ballot in 2024.

★ ★ ★

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar won a resounding victory over her AIPAC-backed challenger in Minnesota — against an onslaught of rightwing money and racist attack ads.

With the grassroots behind her, Ilhan’s win is a “powerful rebuke of the influence of corporate money in our democracy and a testament to her dedication to progressive values,” OR Director Joseph Geevarghese told Common Dreams.

But the fight isn’t over yet! Ilhan and our progressive allies in Congress have targets on their backs because they boldly call for a ceasefire in Gaza and stand firm against corporate power and the far right. Chip in to make sure we have the resources to have Ilhan’s back all the way through November.

★ ★ ★

CLEAN SWEEP IN VERMONT! Our Revolution’s entire slate won in Tuesday’s primary in Vermont — including, of course, our founder Bernie Sanders!

Thanks to grassroots mobilization, VT Rep. Tanya Vyhovsky is heading to the State Senate to continue her work for climate, housing, wages, universal healthcare, and fair taxation.

We’re excited to see that longtime Bernie ally and farmer, Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman is on his way to re-election on a fusion ticket between the Democrat and the Vermont Progressive parties.

And, congrats to VT Reps. Emilie Krasnow, Brian Cina, and Emilie Kornheiser — who recently passed an historic law in Vermont, forcing fossil fuel corporations to pay for the climate damage they cause.

★ ★ ★

In Washington State, U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-7) won her primary despite an outpouring of rightwing money seeking to unseat one of our top progressive leaders.

As the Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Pramila has led on the Medicare for All Act, defending abortion rights, passing the largest-ever climate bill, and challenging MAGA extremists.

She has been a close partner with Our Revolution, and we will work to make sure she’s re-elected in November! Donate here.

★ ★ ★

And, while the race hasn’t been called yet, Dave Upthegrove — one of our most exciting environmental candidates — looks like he may make the runoff for Washington State Public Lands Commissioner!

Our Revolution made over 300,000 voter contacts in the lead up to this election — and it may be just enough to give Dave the edge with these tight margins! He is a prime example of why our work in down-ballot races is so critical.

The State Public Lands Commissioner has the power to save the state’s mature forests — crucial for climate resilience and home to precious endangered species — and Dave is the only candidate not funded by the timber industry.

With his background in biology and conservation, Dave will protect the forests while working to prevent forest fires and grow local economies. As King County Councilman, he championed affordable housing and clean energy, and he would be the first openly gay statewide executive in WA State history!

★ ★ ★

Our entire movement is saddened by big money’s defeat of US Rep. Cori Bush last week, but we are proud of the progressive power she helped us build in Missouri as an activist and during her time in Congress.

Progressives now have a governing majority in St. Louis — from city council to mayor — led by Our Revolution Board Member Megan Green as President of the Board of Aldermen. Now, we are set to add a progressive governor to that roster!

Crystal Quade grew up on a dirt road in rural Missouri, and now she may be the next governor! Crystal has led in the State House to restore our abortion rights, stand up to corporate special interests, and stop China and Russia from buying up farmland and squeezing out local farmers.

Marty Murray is one step closer to the State House, where he is determined to make a difference on gun reform, environment, worker rights, LGBTQ+ and racial justice, and much more — including fixing the broken Missouri Legislature with direct democracy initiatives.

Alfred Montgomery won his primary for St. Louis Sheriff. If he wins in November, Alfred will bring his focus on youth and anti-poverty initiatives to the sheriff’s office, and he has plans for restorative justice and jobs programs for exited offenders.

Our progressive leaders and organizers in St. Louis have delivered — from a universal basic income program to taking on big developers and growing housing and unions. Become a monthly member of Our Revolution to help us sustain this work and win life-changing policy.

★ ★ ★

Two more victories in Michigan — U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Alyshia Dyer for Washtenaw County Sheriff both move on to the general election in November!

Rashida Tlaib has been a fearless champion for a ceasefire in Gaza, racial justice, and working people, and we need to keep her voice in Congress!

Alyshia Dyer will create a sheriff’s office that respects and protects the whole community. Experiencing homelessness as a juvenile informed her focus on community support and social justice. She has experience in social work and served with Detroit's Civil Rights, Inclusion & Opportunity Department.

★ ★ ★

UPCOMING RACES

With early voting starting next week, we are excited to announce our Massachusetts slate, led by U.S. Reps. Ayanna Pressley and Jim McGovern, who have both called for a ceasefire and to freeze US military assistance to Israel.

We’re also proud to support Evan MacKay - a union leader and pro-democracy organizer running for State House in Middlesex 25th District - as well as Mara Dolan and Stacey Borden for the Governor’s Council in Districts 3 and 4, respectively, and Allison Cartwright for Supreme Judicial Clerk in Suffolk County.

★ ★ ★

Election Day is Tuesday in Florida, and Jacqueline "Jack" Porter is the clear choice for Tallahassee City Commission — where we are just two seats away from achieving a progressive majority!

Porter is focused on the affordable housing crisis, economic insecurity, gun violence, and environmental justice — and her strongest opponent is a real estate developer backed by the police union.

★ ★ ★

Please chip in any amount to power our voter turnout operations across the country in 2024. As we battle Trump and the far right, we must invest in defending AND expanding progressive power up and down the ballot.

Since Bernie founded Our Revolution eight years ago, we’ve been working to transform the Democratic Party nationally and within the state parties — now this work is coming to fruition!

This week at the Democratic National Convention, we are thrilled to see critical party reforms up for final approval by delegates in Chicago!

After 8 years of organizing, we are on track to permanently reduce the power of superdelegates, and require that all 57 state parties adopt same-day primary voter registration and vote by mail.

The Unity Reform Commission was originally launched by 1,300 Bernie delegates at the 2016 convention and co-chaired by Our Revolution Chair Larry Cohen. In 2020, with the backing of over 1,000 Bernie convention delegates, we successfully extended these reforms for the 2024 cycle. Now, our changes could become permanent — this is HUGE!

Add your name NOW and tell DNC delegates to vote YES this week to continue the reforms our movement organized to win when Bernie was on the ballot.

Chicago DNC Kickoff: Celebrate Rev. Jesse Jackson

This Sunday, Our Revolution, The Nation and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition are gathering in-person for an evening of reflection to honor the legacy of the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. and discuss how to advance his legacy into the future.

Our Revolution Chair Larry Cohen will speak at this special event with Revs. Jesse Jackson Sr. and Al Sharpton, along with U.S. Reps. Barbara Lee, Ro Khanna, Jamie Raskin, Jonathan Jackson, and many others!

Campaigning as an unapologetic progressive, Rev. Jackson remade US politics with a pair of hard-fought campaigns for the Democratic presidential nominations of 1984 and 1988.

These campaigns broke new ground, showing that it was possible to form a multiracial working class coalition for political change, and inspired Sen. Bernie Sanders when he ran in 2016 and 2020.

Join us for what promises to be a special evening ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

The AVERAGE rent is now $2,895 in California, and more than 171,000 people are now homeless in the state.

The rent is still too damn high! And, that’s why Our Revolution is throwing our full support behind Proposition 33, the statewide ballot measure for rent control in California.

Renters and advocates delivered more than 730,000 letters to Gov. Gavin Newsom, urging him to support Yes on 33 — and now, voters will get to decide in November.

Not only will Prop 33 remove the California ban on Rent Control, it will allow cities and counties to expand Rent Control. AND — this is huge — it will allow local communities to stop predatory corporate landlords from charging unfair and unaffordable rents.

We are proud to be part of this massive coalition of renters, families, veterans, seniors, and young people fighting alongside social justice organizations and labor unions for Justice for Renters.

Add your name here to support Rent Control in California and help us get the word out to Vote Yes on 33 by Election Day Nov. 5th.

The primaries are winding down, and now our focus turns to the General Election in November.

Right-wing billionaires, corporate cronies, AIPAC, and MAGA donors are still pouring millions into the 2024 election trying to unseat some of our top progressive champions in Congress — but we refuse to let powerful voices like Bernie Sanders, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Pramila Jayapal, and others be silenced by the donor class.

Our Revolution and the progressive movement are mobilizing to out-organize Big Money. This means speaking directly to voters through phone banks, online outreach, and knocking on doors — all the way through November!

Following President Biden’s debate, Our Revolution surveyed over 35,000 of our supporters, and we were among the first grassroots groups to sound the alarm about Biden’s diminished chances. We polled again after Biden passed the torch, and we’re putting your input into action.

That’s why we’re urging VP Kamala Harris to commit to a strong, progressive economic agenda — which 73% of you tell us is key to helping ensure a defeat of Trump in the swing states and beyond this November.

Nearly 1 in 3 progressives are uncertain about Harris’ prospects to beat Trump, and say the best way for Dems to win is to tackle the economic struggles of working-class Americans. Harris is clear on the fight to save democracy and protect women’s reproductive rights, but our members want Harris to expand the base and campaign on kitchen table issues to win in swing states. Read more about our survey results here.

Top priorities include campaign finance reform and standing up to corporate power, climate action (end fossil fuel subsidies, lower energy costs and create jobs), health care (end medical debt and expand Medicare - dental, hearing and vision), a permanent ceasefire in Gaza (and redirect military spending), affordable housing (plus a 5% cap on rent prices), raising the minimum wage, growing unions, and universal childcare.

Tuesday is the last day to vote in Missouri for US Rep. Cori Bush and Our Revolution’s amazing slate of progressives from Governor to the State House and St. Louis Committee.

We’ve been proud to help build a progressive governing majority in St. Louis with Our Revolution Board Member Megan Green leading the Board of Aldermen. Local leaders and organizers have worked to deliver real change — from taking on big developers to growing labor power.

Now, we’ve got to protect and expand the gains we’ve made — and that starts with re-electing one of our most formidable partners in Congress — Cori Bush.

“If we want a brighter future for our country and our world, we need to make change that people can feel,” Cori told us. “We build power by getting more of us in there who are willing to put our minds, our bodies and our reputations on the line to deliver equity and justice for our communities.”

In addition to supporting Cori, we’re organizing to elect a progressive Governor in MO! Crystal Quade has led in the State House to restore our abortion rights, stand up to corporate special interests, and stop China and Russia from buying up farmland and squeezing out local farmers.

Ben Murray, Bill Stephens, and Marty Murray are all running for State House to make a difference on gun reform, the environment, worker rights, LGBTQ+ and racial justice, and much more — including fixing the broken Missouri Legislature with direct democracy initiatives.

As St. Louis Sheriff, Alfred Montgomery will build a community that thrives on trust, transparency, and unity. He will bring his focus on youth and anti-poverty initiatives, and has plans for restorative justice and jobs programs for exited offenders.

And, Mike Gras is running for St. Louis Committeeman in Ward 9 to be a champion for democracy, housing, reproductive rights, and top notch education for every child in the city.

We have an amazing slate of progressives in Vermont for the State House and Senate, Lt. Governor, and of course, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders! Last day to vote is Aug. 13.

We have a chance to send VT Rep. Tanya Vyhovsky to the State Senate to continue her work for climate justice, affordable housing, living wages, social justice, universal healthcare, and fair taxation.

And, let’s re-elect Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman and VT Reps. Emilie Krasnow, Brian Cina, and Emilie Kornheiser — who recently passed an historic law in Vermont, forcing fossil fuel corporations to pay for the climate damage they cause.

Tuesday is the last day to submit ballots to make sure we re-elect US Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-7) and elect top environmental champion Dave Upthegrove, as WA State Public Lands Commissioner.

Pramila Jayapal has been a critical ally for our movement as the Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. She’s led on the Medicare for All Act, defending abortion rights, passing the largest-ever climate bill, and challenging MAGA extremists.

And, we are excited to support King County Councilman Dave Upthegrove to combat the climate crisis by preserving mature forests while working to prevent forest fires and grow the local economy. We’re getting out the vote in Michigan by Tuesday for U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Layla Taha for State House (HD-25) and Alyshia Dyer for Washtenaw Co. Sheriff— all endorsed by Our Revolution.

Rashida Tlaib has been a fearless champion for a ceasefire in Gaza, racial justice, and working people, and we need to keep her voice in Congress!

Layla Taha, a longtime public health advocate and community organizer, will bring the fight to the State House for affordable healthcare for all Michiganders, a livable wage for working families, and environmental justice to ensure everyone has access to clean water and air.

Alyshia Dyer will create a sheriff’s office that respects and protects the whole community. Experiencing homelessness as a juvenile informed her focus on community support and social justice. She’ll also bring her experience in social work and Detroit's Civil Rights, Inclusion & Opportunity Department.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has a target on her back from AIPAC and far right donors because she is dauntless in her call for Peace in Gaza and her fight against corporate power — but our movement is getting out the vote through Aug. 13th!

Ilhan and Bernie recently introduced the End Polluter Welfare Act, which would end tax loopholes and subsidies to Big Oil. She passed the MEALS Act to protect student meals during school closures, and her advocacy for student loan cancellation led to Biden’s debt relief for thousands of borrowers.’

Let’s make sure Ilhan stays in Congress to carry on these fights!

★ ★ ★

We must maximize the next 45 days to Nov. 5th. That’s why our organizers are pounding the pavement to recruit volunteers and invest in expanding our phone banks, email and text operations. Support our Swing State Fund here.

Join our 2024 Swing State Phone Bank to help defeat Trump from anywhere in the country. As early voting gets underway, we’ll be calling into all 7 battleground states for 7 days, and it all kicks off Wednesday, Oct. 2nd. This is how we run up the margins where it counts the most!

Congrats to Jacqueline "Jack" Porter who WON as the clear progressive choice for Tallahassee City Commission — where we are now just ONE seat away from achieving a progressive majority!

HEADLINES: Fight for the Future Town Hall | Bowman vs. AIPAC | Vermont’s Big Win vs. Big Oil | NEW Endorsements in NY, CO | Bernie: End Polluter Welfare | Worker Organizing with NLRB | & MORE!

★ ★ ★

AIPAC and Trump donors are spending $25 million trying to unseat Congressman Jamaal Bowman — a champion for peace, climate, reproductive rights, and racial justice.

Hillary Clinton just joined them in supporting his opponent, a corporate Dem taking money from anti-abortion Republicans who oppose Biden’s agenda to tax the rich.

Pitch in whatever you can so we can ramp up our GOTV operation for Bowman as early voting starts today!

★ ★ ★

★ ★ ★

Not only is our democracy on the line but so is the fate of our planet. We have to fight back against the big money trying to buy our elections and buy policy that enriches Big Oil at our expense.

That’s why Our Revolution hosted our Fight for the Future Town Hall on Monday with U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman, Vermont Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, Vermont Rep. Emilie Krasnow, and Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr. of the Hip Hop Caucus.

Our movement is mobilizing to re-elect these powerhouse climate champions and organize for the next phase of the climate fight. To do that, we have to out-organize the Big Money flooding Democratic primaries from right-wing billionaires, corporate cronies, AIPAC, and MAGA donors.

★ ★ ★

Early voting starts TODAY in New York, and Our Revolution is part of a progressive coalition hitting the streets and the phones for Jamaal Bowman in this final stretch to Election Day June 25th.

Up to $25 MILLION is pouring into the NY-16 primary in a coordinated effort to try to replace Bowman with a corporate Democrat, who has become the largest recipient of AIPAC money so far this election cycle.

“They dropped another million on their ads,” Bowman said at our Town Hall Monday. “They’re spending an astronomical amount simply because we’re fighting for peace and justice, equality and humanity, and especially because we called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”

Bowman is also under assault from MAGA money — “the same money that goes to fighting abortion rights from women, voting rights, climate action,” he told us. “They don’t want a working-class person in this seat, they want someone who will bend the knee to Big Money in politics — which we’ll never, ever do because that’s what’s accelerating the destruction of our democracy.”

Like Jamaal said, “Organized people beat organized money every time.” If you’re near NYC, we need you to join us in knocking on doors during this final stretch! Bernie and AOC will also be coming in for a rally.

All hands on deck! Sign up here to GOTV with fellow progressives for Jamaal Bowman.

It may be David vs Goliath, but Our Revolution candidates in Vermont just won a major victory against the fossil fuel industry — one we hope to see replicated in state after state!

The historic legislation requires oil and gas companies to pay for the climate damage they cause. “If you make a mess, clean it up,” VT Rep. Emilie Krasnow said on our Fight for the Future Town Hall.

A barrage of climate catastrophes, including torrential flooding caused billions in damage last year and was a “real wake-up call for many,” she said. “Even our Republican Governor agrees that the burden should not rest on the taxpayers — on working Vermonters, small businesses, farmers.”

Vermont Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman told us he and Emilie will keep pushing for legislation to transition the state’s biggest power companies to 100% renewable energy, which the Governor vetoed this round.

Zuckerman has worked with Bernie for decades, so he knows uphill battles that can be won. He’s also a lifelong farmer who has experienced the devastation of climate events firsthand and seen people come together in times of environmental crisis.

“We can’t let them pit us against each other,” David told us. “Climate affects all of us. When we unite, we are more powerful than the corporate powers. We just have to see it.”

Early voting for the Vermont primary starts in just 2 weeks and runs through Aug. 13th, when Emilie, David, and Bernie Sanders will all be on the ballot for re-election.

Donate any amount to make sure Our Revolution maxes out our GOTV work to re-elect Bernie and climate champs like Emilie Krasnow, and David Zuckerman in Vermont!

★ ★ ★

Speaking of Bernie — while Donald Trump is begging Big Oil for a billion dollars to help get him back in the White House, our coalition for climate is taking the fight against fossil fuels to the next level.

Sen. Bernie Sanders and U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar recently introduced the End Polluter Welfare Act in Congress to end tax loopholes and taxpayer handouts to the fossil fuel industry.

It’s time to demand our politicians stop using OUR MONEY to pay oil and gas companies to kill us. We must break their deadly business model, and forge a path to a clean energy paradigm — now before it’s too late.

Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., President of the Hip Hop Caucus, inspired us all on the Fight for the Future Town Hall as he called for us to break out of our siloes and reach folks with a clear, unifying message:

“We’re on the brink. We must stop using our tax dollars to fund the madness of our extinction. As human beings, we must say, ‘No, we will not fund our destruction anymore,” Rev. Yearwood said.

“The Trump tax breaks expire in 2025, so this is an opportunity, a critical moment in history,” he urged. “This is not a partisan issue, I don’t know anybody who wants to pay someone to poison their child.”

Every dollar you donate to Our Revolution helps us mobilize the grassroots to support crucial legislation like Bernie’s bill to End Polluter Welfare. Chip in today!

★ ★ ★

NEW ENDORSEMENTS!

In addition to Jamaal Bowman in New York, Our Revolution is also supporting FIVE progressives for state assembly seats — this is how we build out the legislature with champions for climate, healthcare, housing, wages, and justice.

If you’re in New York state or know someone who is, let folks know about these powerhouse progressive champs on the ballot: Sarahana Shrestha (AD-103), Claire Cousin (AD-106), Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas (AD-34), Eon Tyrell Huntley (AD-56), and Gabriella Romero (AD-109).

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is excited to endorse NINE progressives for the Colorado Legislature!

For State House we’re backing: Tim Hernandez (HD-4), Junie Joseph (HD-10), Kyra deGruy Kennedy (HD-30), Manny Rutinel (HD-32), Bryan Lindstrom (HD-36), Sarah McKeen (HD-51), Yara Zokaie (HD-52), and Andrew Boesenecker (HD-53).

And, we are supporting Mike Weissman for State Senate (District 28). The Colorado primary is June 25th and early voting starts this Tuesday (June 17th)!

Please chip in any amount to power our voter turnout operations across the country in 2024. As we battle Trump and the far right, we must invest in defending AND expanding progressive power up and down the ballot.

★ ★ ★

On Tuesday, we joined a LIVE event on Worker Organizing with the Economic Policy Institute and discussed new developments at the National Labor Relations Board.

NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo gave us a breakdown of all the major reforms her office has undertaken. And, Our Revolution Chair Larry Cohen - former President of the Communications Workers of America - joined her on a panel to talk about the impact on workplace organizing.

The NLRB has taken great measures to support worker organizing and bargaining rights under the Biden administration, and we got to hear from Cindy Estrada, Strategic Advisor to the President of the Center for Transformational Organizing, AFL-CIO.

★ ★ ★

★ ★ ★

Jamaal Bowman is not the only one under serious attack. Right-wing billionaires, corporate cronies, AIPAC, and MAGA donors are pouring millions into Democratic primaries trying to unseat some of our top progressive champions in Congress.

We refuse to let powerful voices like Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Pramila Jayapal, and others be silenced by the donor class. Even Politico is highlighting the scourge of Republican money being dumped into Democratic primaries.

Our Revolution and the grassroots progressive movement are mobilizing in districts across the country right now to out-organize the Big Money. This means speaking directly to voters through phone banks, online outreach, and knocking on doors.

Our Revolution leaders joined with some of the country’s top progressive minds at The Sanders Institute Gathering last weekend — including Bernie and Jane Sanders, Bill McKibben, Ben Jealous, and many others — to talk about next steps in our fight to make our progressive policy priorities a reality.

Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese led a panel about Taking on Big Oil: Ending Fossil Fuel Subsidies with Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr. of the Hip Hop Caucus, Jamie Minden of Zero Hour and Erich Picha of Friends of the Earth.

“Our democracy is on the line. But so too is the fate of our planet,” Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese told the panel. “Bernie recently introduced the End Polluter Welfare Act to close their tax loopholes and phase out the tax subsidies to Big Oil. We need a movement to get this over the finish line.”

Common Dreams reported on the panel and the next phase of the fight against the fossil fuel industry in its piece this week titled, ‘Time to Go for the Jugular': Climate Movement Has New Plan to Destroy Big Oil.

Americans are not only “dying because of the climate crisis” but also paying fossil fuel companies “to kill us,” Rev. Yearwood told the audience. “Their business plan literally means a death sentence for our communities.” Hear more from Rev. Yearwood on our Fight for the Future Town Hall on Monday!

John Nichols of The Nation discussed the Role of the Media in Effecting Change with David Sirota of The Lever and Jon Queally of Common Dreams. Stephanie Kelton, a senior economic adviser to Bernie in his 2020 campaign, introduced her new film: Finding the Money.

On the topic of Fighting for the Working Class, we heard from Sara Nelson - Int’l President of the Association of Flight Attendants CWA, AFL-CIO - and Saru Jayaraman, President of One Fair Wage.

“Starbucks baristas did us a huge favor by organizing when many people said it was not strategic,” Sara told the crowd. “Corporate elite tell us you should feel lucky to have a job. We're gonna make sure they know they should feel lucky to have our work!”

Wendell Potter, author and whistleblower, spoke on the HealthCare Crisis, and a host of other speakers dug into key progressive priorities ranging from the Housing Crisis to Social Security.

Mark your calendar for June 11th, and join us LIVE to discuss Worker Organizing with the Economic Policy Institute and new developments at the National Labor Relations Board.

Our Revolution is once again endorsing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for re-election to Congress in NY-14!

AOC continues to be a powerful voice for our progressive priorities from ending student debt to Medicare for All to the Green New Deal.

She has been an outspoken advocate for a Ceasefire and Peace in Gaza. With right wing and corporate money pouring into the race, it’s critical that our grassroots movement do everything we can to keep her in office!

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is happy to stand with David Zuckerman in his run for re-election as Lt. Governor of Vermont!

David has been a lifelong ally of Bernie Sanders as well as an organic farmer, environmentalist, and champion for the working class.

We look forward to hearing from him on our LIVE Call Monday about his work to advance climate action and hold Big Oil to account in the Green Mountain State, where fossil fuel companies can no longer pollute with impunity! Read more about the new legislation to do just that in Rolling Stone.

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is excited to endorse State Rep. Emilie Krasnow for re-election in Vermont, where she has been a powerful champion for climate, housing, healthcare and more.

Emilie recently helped pass an historic bill in Vermont requiring fossil fuel companies to pay for their own catastrophes. She believes we can meet the global challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero with policy that focuses on equity and improves health, creates jobs, and saves people money.

Other priorities include universal healthcare, expanded public transit, and a house-first approach to ending homelessness. For the past decade, Emilie has worked with affordable housing groups and unions, and is co-chair of the Labor Caucus.

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is proudly supporting the top labor candidate for Portland City Council — Jonathan Tasini, a 32-year member of United Auto Workers.

The entire council is being restructured and will have 12 new councilors - so this is a chance to think big and pass policy that can serve as an urban pro-labor model for the entire nation!

With the most union endorsements of any of the 70+ candidates across the four Portland districts, Jonathan is championing a pro-labor majority to defend workers’ rights.

★ ★ ★

Congrats to Janeese Lewis George who won her primary and is likely to win re-election in November to the DC City Council (Ward 4).

Our Revolution was proud to endorse Janeese because we know she is the progressive leader we need. Janeese is on a mission for community empowerment and social justice to shape a brighter, fairer future for all.

Growing up in a working-class family Janeese learned early on the importance of family, hard work, education, and public service. Inspired to fight inequities head on, she is an experienced attorney, civil servant, and community activist.

Since being elected to the DC Council in 2020, Janeese has served on committees for transportation and environment, labor and workforce, human services, and more.

★ ★ ★

Congratulations to Annette Ramirez on winning the primary runoff for Tax Assessor Collector in Harris County, Texas!

This important office is charged with improving election integrity in the nation’s 3rd most populous county. We need to keep a progressive in charge of voter registration rolls — not risk a Republican effort to “clean the voter rolls” and make it harder to vote.

Annette will prioritize collections against corporations and big businesses over homeowners and work for language justice and same day voter registration.

More than 100 progressives joined the Massachusetts Unconvention on Zoom call this week to plan out how best to shift the policy priorities of the Democratic Party and oust incumbents stymying progress for the status quo.

“If we want to begin to have what I would call transformational politics around housing, health care, jobs — it’s going to require taking on the Democrats that are ensuring the continuation of the status quo,” Rand Wilson, Our Rev Massachusetts leader and longtime labor organizer, told Politico Playbook.

INSIDER NEWS FROM THE FRONTLINES OF THE POLITICAL REVOLUTION

_____________________________________________________________

HEADLINES:  Protecting & Expanding Progressive Power in Congress | ENDORSEMENTS: Pramila Jayapal, Ilhan Omar, Jamaal Bowman, Susheela Jayapal, Lateefah Simon | VICTORY! Summer Lee Beats Big Money | Vote for Peace in Maryland 5/2 | & MORE!

★ ★ ★

★ ★ ★

This week, Our Revolution held a special 2024 Progressive Power Town Hall with US Reps. Pramila Jayapal, Jamaal Bowman and Ilhan Omar, as well as candidates Susheela Jayapal (OR-3) and Lateefah Simon (CA-12).

The event kicked off our strategic campaign to Protect and Expand Progressive Power in Congress, rallying to elect - and re-elect - strong voices for peace and justice on Capitol Hill — many of whom are being targeted by dark money groups.

“Progressives are sounding the alarm against…a torrent of spending against leftist candidates who are holding the Biden administration to task for its unilateral support of Israel and its war on Gaza,” Politico reported on the town hall.

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is proud to stand with Pramila Jayapal as she organizes to defend and grow the Congressional Progressive Caucus she chairs and runs for re-election herself.

“The reality is that we need to protect progressives in Congress like me, Ilhan, and Jamaal, who are under attack by Republican mega donors who are coming into our districts, recruiting people to run against us, and pouring enormous amounts of money into these races,” Pramila said.

AIPAC has pledged to spend $100 million against progressives this year alone, she said, “because they’re afraid of our power, because we have stood up for peace and economic justice, because we have challenged the status quo and fought corporate power and proudly stood for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”

“We can’t sit back and wait to see how it all plays out,” Pramila continued. “That is not what Our Revolution is all about. They might have billionaire mega donors, but we have the people, and people power is how we’re going to win these elections.”

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is once again endorsing Ilhan Omar for re-election because we need her voice representing our movement and Minnesota’s 5th District in Congress.

Ilhan has taken a lot of heat from the far right for standing on the right side of history and she will have our movement on her side through her primary on Aug. 13th and beyond.

“Every policy that the Progressive Caucus champions polls at 60% or above. If the people’s house was not beholden to special interests, all of these great policies would be implemented and we would have an incredibly great, progressive country that takes care of everyone,” Ilhan told us Monday.

“We know they’re going to spend a lot of money, but we are moving in strength not weakness,” she continued. “We are going to continue to move policies rooted in radical love and advocate for the politics of love because our communities deserve that.”

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution is all-in to re-elect Jamaal Bowman to the U.S. Congress to serve New York’s 16th District. He has been one of our most dauntless voices for racial justice in the U.S. House, and we are rallying to make sure progressives turn out to vote for him on June 25th!

Besides his support of a ceasefire in Gaza, Bowman said anti-black racism is also a factor in why big money is targeting his re-election bid. “This is a majority-minority district, where we have been doing grassroots organizing with young people and progressive since we got into office,” he told us.

Up to a quarter of AIPAC’s $100 million could be spent against Bowman, and there will be Trump donor money on top of it. But when Jamaal joined our virtual town hall this week, he said, “That’s OK, because Our Revolution has my back.”

★ ★ ★

Not only are we on a mission to Defend Progressive Power, but we also have some great opportunities to GROW Progressive Power by electing new allies to Congress this year!

You already know that Our Revolution is endorsing Susheela Jayapal for Congress in Oregon’s 3rd District - and so is Bernie Sanders! - and our movement got to know her better at our Town Hall event on Monday.

Yes, she is the sister of Pramila, and nearly choked up speaking of the influence she has made on her journey into politics — and the sacrifice their parents made to give them both a shot at the American Dream.

As a lawyer, nonprofit leader, and county commissioner, Susheela has seen that dream fall short for many. When this blue seat opened up for the first time in 30 years, she knew she had to run to make it as progressive as possible.

“I am the only candidate to publicly reject corporate PAC money, clearly support Medicare for All and public social housing, and to clearly and consistently call for a ceasefire in Gaza,” Susheela told us. “I first called for a ceasefire in November, and I have come under considerable fire for that stance. My opponents have said that’s not an issue that matters to our voters.”

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution has been in Lateefah Simon’s corner since she announced her run to replace retiring Congresswoman Barbara Lee in California’s 12th District.

Lateefah has the endorsement of Rep. Lee, and she beat out 9 opponents to win her primary on a message of healthcare, worker rights, and housing.

“These are local issues, but the federal government has an opportunity to bring back resources to the ground in our communities. The old party line isn’t working anymore,” Lateefah told us Monday. “We don’t need to be scared of folks who are on the other side of our politics because we have been here before.

“I believe in the idea of true peace, dignity, wholeness, and equality. We’re going to get there. My glasses aren’t rose colored, I understand how far we have to go,” she continued. “The cavalry really is not coming. It is us with our dreams, our hopes, and our tactical experience that’s going to move the House.”

VICTORY!

Congrats to U.S. Rep. Summer Lee! Summer is the first pro-Ceasefire member of Congress to face a serious big money-powered challenger this election cycle — and she just won her primary by a landslide with the grassroots at her back!

Summer Lee’s overwhelming victory on Tuesday shows that we CAN stand up for Peace in Gaza and defeat the Big Money attacks that come our way.

Our Revolution is proud to stand with Summer, and we’re READY to take on the same forces to re-elect Jamaal Bowman, Ilhan Omar, Pramila Jayapal, Cori Bush, and all of our Peace champions in Congress!

Help Our Revolution fund our phone bank and texting force to elect more great progressives like this across the country in 2024!

Our Revolution stands in solidarity with student protesters who are organizing to demand a Ceasefire in Gaza and an end to U.S. funding of the killing of Palestinian civilians and children.

We also applaud the 37 progressive champions including Barbara Lee, Ilhan Omar, Ro Khanna, and Pramila Jayapal who voted against providing more unconditional funding for Netyanahu’s war regime.

This marks the first time that this many Democrats voted against weapons and funding to Israel’s military.

"The role for outside groups, like the young people who are protesting and Our Revolution is to be out on the streets, because that gives people like Bernie and AOC the standing to advocate on the inside,” Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese told The Hill this week.

Add your name: Stop sending U.S. weapons to Israel. Peace Now!

★ ★ ★

Our Revolution has been at the vanguard of the “Vote Uncommitted” movement - we’re using the ballot box to pressure the Biden Administration to end its unconditional support for the Netyanahu’s brutal war in Gaza.

To date, we’ve helped organize 600,000 protest votes for Peace in the Democratic primaries — including critical swing states like MI WI and MN.

The next front in the fight will be the Maryland primary on May 14th. Right now, Our Revolution is mobilizing our 137,000 members in Maryland to vote “uncommitted” to send a message to President Biden: Change course and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

“Progressive Democrats in Maryland will not stand by idly as the White House uses American taxpayer dollars to fund Netanyahu’s horrific bombing campaign,” Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese told Maryland Matters.

push priorities like Peace in Gaza, desperately needed campaign finance reform, taxing billionaires like Elon Musk, fighting climate change, reducing the power of superdelegates and so much more.

The core of our message: President Biden and the entire Democratic Party must listen to progressives if they want to actually energize and motivate voters to defeat Trump in November.
