Today, the Congressional Progressive Caucus announced they’re ready to use the next budget fight to stop funding ICE unless meaningful reforms are enacted.

As Rep. Ilhan Omar said:

“Our caucus members will oppose all funding for immigration enforcement in any appropriation bills until meaningful reforms are enacted to end militarized policing practices.”

That’s leadership — but it will only hold if Congress feels massive public pressure.

ICE violence is escalating — by design

The Trump administration has warned it is launching its “largest operation to date” in the Twin Cities, deploying thousands of federal agents and escalating raids and street detentions.

If Congress doesn’t rein in ICE now, these abuses will get worse. We cannot allow ICE to terrorize our communities and call it “normal.” We cannot allow Trump’s agents to become an unchecked force inside our cities.

A college freshman was just trying to surprise her family for Thanksgiving. Instead, she was surrounded by federal immigration agents at the Boston airport and deported to Honduras within 48 hours — even after a judge ordered a stay.

A mother working her factory shift was separated from her children when ICE stormed her workplace. She was detained, misprocessed, and wrongfully deported to Guatemala before her 2-year-old could even say goodbye.

These are not isolated incidents. They are the reality of Trump’s ICE: masked agents storming workplaces, classrooms, and entire neighborhoods with intimidation and brute force.

And it’s happening everywhere — from Boston to Charlotte to Los Angeles and beyond.

Families are being ripped apart. Children are being left behind. Entire communities are being terrorized. We cannot afford to stay silent.

A New National Deportation Push: “Swamp Sweep”

Now, ICE just launched a major new operation called “Swamp Sweep,” a months-long push to arrest thousands of people. Hundreds of agents have deployed — not just in Louisiana, but in cities across the country.

Communities report the same pattern:

• masked ICE agents staking out homes
• raids at worksites and schools
• people detained without explanation
• families separated with no notice

All of it is being carried out with our tax dollars, approved by Congress. The cruelty is not a mistake — it is the point.

We are building networks of resistance to protect our communities.
