Our Revolution Rallies Behind Troy Jackson to Replace Graham Platner on Maine Senate Ballot
With just days before Maine’s replacement deadline, Our Revolution is mobilizing behind former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson to ensure the people-first movement that won the Democratic primary isn’t replaced by the political establishment.
After withdrawing our endorsement of Graham Platner in light of the serious allegations against him, Our Revolution made two things clear.
First, the allegations are serious, and Platner should step aside.
Second, this is not an opening for Democratic insiders to handpick a replacement that ignores the will of Maine voters.
Mainers voted decisively for a bold progressive agenda: Medicare for All, a campaign free from corporate money, an end to endless wars, and a candidate who would stand with working people instead of powerful interests. That mandate deserves to be honored.
That’s why Our Revolution is rallying behind Troy Jackson to carry that movement forward.
A logger, union leader, and former President of the Maine State Senate, Troy has spent his life fighting for working people. He led Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns in Maine in both 2016 and 2020, and Bernie later endorsed Troy’s campaign for governor. Long before this Senate seat became available, Troy had built a record of standing with workers, unions, and rural communities across Maine.
As Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese said:
“Last night we made clear that Graham Platner should withdraw from Maine’s Senate race. The allegations against him are serious, and he must step aside. We also made something else clear: this is not the Democratic establishment’s opening to handpick a replacement.
“Maine’s progressives didn’t win the primary by a fluke or by a narrow margin. Working people voted for Medicare for All, for a Senate campaign free of corporate money, an end to forever wars, and for a candidate who would actually fight for them. That mandate doesn’t disappear because one candidate is gone.
“That is why we are rallying behind Troy Jackson. He has spent his life in the fight working people are asking for—not arriving to it because a seat opened up.
“We have days, not weeks, to make sure a real progressive is on this ballot. If we do not organize now, we risk watching the Democratic establishment hand Maine a corporate placeholder while the party that just got outvoted decides it knows better.
“This is bigger than one Senate seat. To take back the Senate, Democrats have to defeat Susan Collins, and they won’t do it by abandoning the coalition that already showed up once. Our Revolution is putting our full organizing machine behind Troy Jackson starting today.”
Our organizing machine is already moving.
With the replacement deadline rapidly approaching, we’re mobilizing our Citizen Action Team, activating volunteers, and organizing across Maine to ensure voters are represented by a candidate who reflects the agenda they overwhelmingly supported.
This fight extends far beyond one state.
Defeating Susan Collins is critical to winning back the Senate. But just as important is protecting the integrity of a movement built by ordinary people—not party insiders or corporate donors. Maine voters already spoke. They chose a people-first platform. Our Revolution is committed to making sure that platform remains on the ballot.
The urgency of this moment has already drawn national attention, with coverage from The New York Times, the Associated Press, The Guardian, Politico, The Hill, and other major outlets. The conversation isn’t simply about replacing one candidate—it’s about whether the Democratic Party will respect the will of primary voters or allow the establishment to override it.
Together, we can ensure Maine Democrats have a nominee who will fight for working people, take on corporate power, and help build the progressive Senate majority our country needs.
When we organize, we win.
