In a night that marked a major turning point for democracy and working people across America, voters in California have passed Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act — a historic win against Donald Trump’s nationwide gerrymandering campaign and a powerful rebuke of authoritarian politics.
This victory, coming alongside progressive wins across the country — including Zohran Mamdani’s stunning mayoral victory in New York City — signals a renewed surge of energy behind leaders and movements willing to fight back and use every tool available to defend democracy and economic justice.
“Tonight, Californians and voters across the country sent an unmistakable message: we are done playing defense,” said Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution.
“From Mamdani’s victory in New York to the passage of Proposition 50 in California, the tide is turning because people are demanding that Democrats fight back — not fold — in the face of Trump’s authoritarian machine.
Prop 50 proves that when we organize, we can outmatch billionaire money with people power. This is how we win: by mobilizing, building coalitions, and refusing to cede ground to corruption and oligarchy. The Trump movement thrives on fear and apathy, but we’re showing what happens when working people rise up together — we win, and we change what’s politically possible.”
Our Revolution’s Role in the Fight for Democracy
Our Revolution mobilized more than 1.2 million voters across California through texting, phone banking, and door-to-door canvassing — part of its nationwide campaign to defend democracy, challenge authoritarianism, and empower working people to take back political power.
Prop 50’s passage reflects years of organizing to make elections fair, stop partisan gerrymandering, and protect the right of every voter to have their voice heard — no matter their zip code or political background.
💪 A Movement Moment for Working People
“This is a movement moment,” Geevarghese continued. “The victories tonight are proof that we can take back the House, defeat Trumpism, and build a government that finally works for working people. The message from voters is clear: it’s time for Democrats to fight by centering the demands of the grassroots.”
Across the country, Our Revolution members, volunteers, and allies are proving that when we organize — we win. From statehouses to city halls to national elections, this movement is building a new political reality rooted in justice, equity, and people power.
The passage of Proposition 50 isn’t just a win for California — it’s a victory for democracy itself. And it’s only the beginning.
Join Our Revolution’s grassroots movement to defend democracy, elect progressive champions, and build a government that works for the many — not the money.
Grassroots Send a Clear Message: It’s Time for Change
A new post-election survey of more than 3,500 progressive voters — the nation’s largest progressive political organizing group with over 8 million members — reveals a growing demand for bold leadership, economic populism, and a break from the Democratic Party’s status quo.
The survey, conducted by Our Revolution, shows deep frustration with current party leaders and overwhelming support for replacing them with candidates who represent the working class, not corporate interests.
“Mamdani’s victory was not an outlier — it was a signal,” said Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution. “The grassroots are demanding change. They want a Democratic Party that fights for working families, taxes the rich, and takes on Trump and the oligarchs driving this affordability crisis. The old guard must step aside or risk losing the movement that delivered these wins.”

What the Grassroots Are Saying
The message from the Democratic base is unmistakable: voters are ready to rebuild the party from the ground up.
The findings paint a clear picture: grassroots Democrats are demanding a populist realignment that centers the needs of working people over the influence of big donors.

Lessons from Mamdani’s Win: Populism Works
In the wake of Zohran Mamdani’s historic victory for New York City Mayor, respondents overwhelmingly agreed on one point — bold, populist economics win elections.

“What happened in New York is a blueprint for how Democrats can win everywhere,” Geevarghese added. “Take on Trump and the billionaire class, lead with moral clarity, and put working people first with bold economic policies. The base is demanding that national leaders step aside if they can’t meet this moment.”
A Warning to the Party Establishment
While enthusiasm among grassroots Democrats is growing, many fear that party elites will once again ignore the lessons of history.
These concerns show a widening gap between a Democratic establishment stuck in the past and a grassroots movement ready to fight for the future.

The Path Forward: A Party for the People
Our Revolution’s survey makes one thing crystal clear — the energy, enthusiasm, and future of the Democratic Party lie with its progressive base.
Voters want leaders who will take on oligarchic power, reject corporate influence, and fight for an economy that works for everyone. The grassroots are not waiting for permission — they’re organizing for transformation.
Because as our movement keeps proving:
💪 When we organize, we win.
