HARRIS AND WALZ VS TRUMP

By Party Work, Take Action

With Kamala Harris choosing a progressive running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, many are hopeful it’s a sign that the Party is listening to the base and embracing a working class agenda.

Walz has a strong record on labor, school meals, housing, paid leave, child poverty, taxing corporations, fighting wage theft, and more — and our polling shows these are winning policies in swing states.

“Walz is an excellent pick for VP. He’s the anti-elite candidate and comes across as the Everyman,” Joseph Geevarghese, Our Revolution executive director, told The Atlantic. “This is a sign Democrats understand they cannot win against Trumpism without pushing policies that resonate with working-class voters in the Midwest and beyond.”

Our mission in 2024 is clear: Defeat Trump. The Harris/Walz ticket is coming into the DNC with a lot of energy, but we need to keep building on this momentum all the way to November.

Our Revolution is running massive voter turnout operations in the battleground states with a goal of reaching 5 million voter contacts! Please chip in any amount to our Swing State Fund today.

Transforming the Party

By Party Work, Take Action

Last week, after years of organizing, the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee voted to extend critical reforms indefinitely, and send our proposal to DNC convention delegates in Chicago for final approval.

These reforms include reducing the power of superdelegates in the presidential nominating process, and mandating all 57 state parties adopt same-day primary voter registration and vote by mail.

The Unity Reform Commission was launched by 1,300 Bernie delegates at the 2016 convention and co-chaired by Our Revolution Chair Larry Cohen. In 2020, with the backing of over 1,000 Bernie convention delegates, we successfully extended these reforms for the 2024 cycle.

Add your name and tell DNC delegates to vote YES and continue the reforms our movement organized to win when Bernie was on the ballot.

Thank You Biden

Our Revolution, Nation’s Largest Progressive Political Organizing Group, Statement on President Biden’s Decision Not to Seek the Nomination

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following President Biden’s decision not to seek the Democratic nomination, Joseph Geervarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution, the largest grassroots-funded progressive political organizing group in the United States, released the following statement

“Our Revolution commends President Biden’s courageous choice to put the country over personal ambitions. We thank him for his service and dedication to the nation. His willingness to listen to the party’s base demonstrates his commitment to our shared mission of defeating Trump.”

Geervarghese continues, “Our Revolution appreciates President Biden’s recent embrace of Bernie Sanders’ plans to cancel medical debt, raise the minimum wage, and cap national rent increases at 5%. This acknowledgment of our progressive platform shows his dedication to listening to our members and we fully expect the top of the ticket to continue embracing these policies.

As we look ahead, our members expect the next nominee, likely Vice President Kamala Harris, to adopt and champion a progressive platform that delivers for working families and rebuilds trust in government and the Democratic Party. With these exciting and tangible policy priorities now part of the party platform, we are hopeful that the new nominee will invigorate interest in the Democratic ticket, ensuring we defeat Trump in November.”

Our Revolution, representing an 8 million-strong grassroots network, conducted an initial survey that showed approximately 70% of progressives supported Biden stepping aside as the Democratic nominee, with 32% indicating they are less likely to vote for him following the debate. These survey results,
first reported by POLITICO Playbook, highlight the sentiments of grassroots progressives about President Biden and the upcoming election.

SIGN ON NOW: 2024 Progressive Power Platform at the Democratic Convention

By Party Work, Take Action

Our Revolution has teamed up with Progressive Democrats of America and the State Democratic Party Network to launch a comprehensive 2024 Progressive Power Platform to push at the Democratic Convention in Chicago in August.

We are organizing delegates to advocate that the DNC include in the party platform progressive priorities like filibuster reform, taxing billionaires, campaign finance reform — and, of course, a ceasefire and conditioning aid to Israel.

“We’re gearing up for a fight and drawing a line in the sand,” Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese told NBC News. “It’s in the re-election campaign’s interest to minimize disruption and protests, and the only way to do that is meaningful policy shifts.”

Sign on to show the DNC that you support the 2024 Progressive Power Platform.

Medicare for All in Massachusetts

By Party Work

Our Revolution Massachusetts organizers just won the state Democratic Party’s support for Medicare for All, union organizing rights for state house staff, and an audit of the state legislature!

Meanwhile, resolutions calling for a majority-elected Party Leadership, more transparent governance, and incentives to get “dark money” out of primaries were defeated – but with major declines in party membership, the fight for a more democratic, grassroots-oriented party continues.

“We are thrilled that four resolutions were adopted by the state committee,” said Michael Gilbreath, a Wayland Democrat and leader of Our Revolution MetroWest. “However, we have to keep fighting for a more active, democratic, and transparent Democratic Party.”

Progressives Beat Back Power Grab in Virginia

By Party Work

Our progressive coalition beat back a power grab by establishment Democrats that would have disenfranchised thousands of grassroots party members.

Virginia Democrats rejected a change to state party rules that would have altered how the commonwealth’s DNC delegates are elected, TYT reports.

This is a major win for progressives! Our Revolution Northern Virginia’s Sandra Klassen (who is also a State Central Committee Member of the VA Dem Party) was thrilled that “all of our work and our allies paid off!”.

2024 Temperature Check

By Party Work

We polled thousands of Our Revolution members, and 41% told us they’re feeling depressed, angry, or unmotivated about the 2024 election. A quarter said the plan to vote for someone other than Joe Biden in the Democratic primaries.

In our online Dem Primary Poll, 44% said they are likely to vote for Biden, 41% said they are likely to vote for another candidate, and 7.6% said not likely to vote.

Meanwhile, despite Democrats pointing out all the horrors of Trump, national polls show him tied with or beating Biden in 2024. Democrats have a problem: the base is not excited about a Trump/Biden rematch and tacking to the right is crushing enthusiasm among key voting blocs.

Voters want to see action on healthcare, climate, unions, and more – and the President still has time to act. There’s no getting around it, Democrats need to raise the standard of living for voters and go being messaging to show whose side they’re on.

In an academic study of Our Revolution members by SUNY and William & Mary colleges, 47% say progressive groups should probably or definitely mount a nomination challenge to Biden in the 2024 Democratic Primary, and another 15% were unsure.

Willingness to be involved in a Biden 2024 reelection campaign is down even from 2020 to just 47% if Biden is the nominee, the study showed.

There’s a serious risk we could face another Trump term in 2024 – unless Democrats can deliver tangible results for working people in order to earn trust and votes.

That’s why Our Revolution and our allies are working overtime to unify the progressive movement and focus our pressure on key demands like student debt relief, an end to medical debt, and urgent climate action.

Larry Cohen Takes on the DNC

By Party Work No Comments

Our Revolution Board Chair Larry Cohen had choice words for the DNC ahead of January’s Winter Meeting in Philadelphia, where our growing progressive bloc is pushing to ban dark money from primaries.

Larry, a longtime labor leader and party reformer, laid out the stakes on our National Organize-to-Win Call on Monday.

“If we don’t get the dirty money out, it becomes increasingly impossible to elect the grassroots challengers,” Larry said. “It’s not just about the rulers, it’s also the rules.”

“For those of us who believe we must fight in every possible way to advance progressive issues and win real power, we ignore party reform at our peril,” Larry wrote in In These Times.

Two New Progressive State Party Chairs

02.04.2023

Congratulations to two new progressive state party chairs: Shasti Conrad, a former Bernie staffer, was just elected Washington State Party Chair! And, union organizer Yolanda Bejarano won a contested race for Arizona State Party Chair!

Yolanda had the backing of Ruben Gallego, who is challenging Kyrsten Sinema in 2024; and progressives swept 10 of the 10 seats they ran for on the AZ State Party Executive Board!

“We now have a working progressive majority in the Arizona Dem Party, Our Revolution PDA-AZ Leader Dan O’Neal was excited to announce on our broadcast. “It’s all about winning and it’s all about power!”

Progressives now hold leadership positions in 20 state parties, and we’re building out power state by state.
